I really love that Yeti has taken an interest to making content like this and have really resisted the temptation to make it a big cooler advertisement. Well done Yeti for making actually beautiful and compelling documentary material. When I first saw the thumbnail I thought, this otta be good, thinking it was about to be a big Yeti commercial. Boy was I wrong.
@WatermarkoatAOL Жыл бұрын
Exactly. Nice to see Yeti (Redbull, Patagonia)pour the energy into these non-commercial films. Making a fortune and recognizing the folks who make it possible. BTW, am I the world’s only person who cannot stand the taste of Redbull? Oh, well.

This is also a marketing strategy, it's called Branded Entertainment and it is used to connect with the audience to a more "human" level. It is pretty cool, but still a marketing strategy.

This video stirred up a whirlwind of emotions within me. The way it has been constructed is truly commendable. The storytelling, the visuals, and the sound design all come together so seamlessly to elicit such a strong emotional response. Kudos to the creators for crafting such a moving and emotional piece.

Surfers are a completely different breed. I lived on the big island for a few years and met a few surfers. Nicest people on earth, so mellow. but when it came time to paddle out, they flipped the switch. Absolute monsters of their craft. I guess you have to take it that seriously when you go against the ocean just for kicks.

I moved to Hawaii in 1971...and have been immeasurably influenced by the 10 years that I spent there on both the south and north shores of Oahu. My respect for the ocean and all of the healing properties within...off the charts. In those years met numerous characters of the early surfing years...Noll, Lopez, Armstrong, Baker, Kaluhiokulani, Aipa, Doyle, and more. What a beautiful community they all comprised...and looking back...I could not change a thing. Mahalo for this life I have lived.

I love surfing films! I was drawn to watch this - it is a beautiful film in every way. Emily is a remarkable woman with gorgeous style on the board - and great maturity and poise in life, and in the sea. You can tell the ocean is her home. The footage was exquisite, and the depth of her story, and her dad's, was packed in such a natural way into this treasure of a short film. I hope to see more of Emily. What guts, skill, and focus it took for her to surf again, and return to Jaws - and win! Inspirational!

Roger was a legend to me and my best friend at 5-7 years old 79-81 on the north shore. Sitting around his little cooking fire he used to make palm frond swords and talk story late into the night. A sweet amazing soul. It’s so killer to see his daughter such a monster in her sport now.

This tugs at the heart... and the emotional cords that connect us all to surfing. Brave that Emi and Rodger would share the raw details in such a public way, but it's the human element that makes this story so compelling. Nearly every comment here mentions the word "story," and that underscores the fact that this film's production team told it incredibly well. Yeti, keep on supporting the creators that made this happen!

What a great movie. I got hurt in big waves and the accumulated damage over the following years made it where I can't surf anymore. Actually, I can barely walk a lot of days. I was able to surf an SUP at the end (the last 2 or 3 years) of my 45 or so surfing. Something as nice as this is really special to me cause it takes me back, it makes me happy people are still young even if I'm not. I loved seeing her catch some at Maverick"s. That place is a test. Thanks to everyone who cared enough to make this documentary and best of luck to the young strong charger who also happens to be a woman.

This was a film with quality story structure and exceptional cinematography. I particularly liked the surf sean in Act 1 where she is filmed from the water level with the wave in the foreground then cuts to the drone shot capturing Emi from above. Same with the beach running scene. Feet and sand in the ground cut to drone shot from above. Great job!

As a father of a loss son of similar age as her who also loved the ocean and nature, I congratulate Roger and his daughter for such connection. In the last months I did recover being connected with him, this will give me peace for the rest of my days

Would be nice to see Em's commitment to a sport and way of life rewarded with sponsorship that made her life more financially secure both now and for the longer term. It's cliche, but you get one shot at life, there's always going to be hits to take when you live that life you were truly meant to. What's it all for if you don't right :-). All the very best to Emily, she is amazing.

Thanks - much respect, we have to face the reality that we’re not all doing great as the world says… the paradigm of a fight to live knowing pain exists and pain is evident in our lives, some worse and for others not so apparent. The ocean absorbs the grief and heals in these moments of struggle, but we also have a Heavenly Father who we can know and share our lives with…
