10:22 The E-flats are so resonant in the bass that they somehow make this section feel slow and epic, even though his tempo is so fast.

Wow. Scriabin himself describes Sudbin's performance in the score; vertiginoso, luminosita, estatico, imperioso, impetuoso, I hear it all! Beside Sudbin's wonderful interpretation is his virtuosity, the beautiful setting, great sound and cinematography. All in all, thank you for this amazing upload.

@@paulprocopolis Yes but, I'm sure Evgueni's performance proved as quite memorable to yourself. To myself, Paul, ten times would qualify as "a long time ago" -- ha! (There seem to be scads of different ways to spell the Russian Eugene, this one above being one.) Ta-ta!

sudbin is a masterpianist, M.A Hamelin finds this among the most difficult he masters it says alot of SUDBIN. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND SUDBIN'S 2 CD'S BIS RECORDS SCARLATTI SONATAS....WHT TO SAY, SCARLATTI TURNS INTO GOLD UNDER SUDBIN'S INCREDIBLE FINGERS.

Great to see him really go for , although it does need to breath in a few places ... and I think at least 50% on the notes on the last page were wrong ( and perhaps that didn't really matter!)

I remember reading once that Arthur Rubinstein made a splash early in his career with his his brilliant, but often inaccurate, playing. He was taken to task for it and spent a year or two reffing his technique and cleaning up his playing so that his brilliant interpretations would be matched by flawless execution. I think the same applies here. I’ve performed this nightmare piece (over 40 years ago), and if I’m ever mad enough to do it again, I’ll take the time to bring it to a level worthy of presentation. I’d give myself a B+ on my youthful performance, but then again, I’m not making a career as a concert pianist whose audiences are paying often high ticket prices expecting near perfection. Just ask an operatic tenor who flubs a high C.
