Goedendag or Gday Ronald & Lies from Australia (Melbourne). First, I'm sorry for the loss of Beau, good you have Kees. Only recently I became aware of your turning on KZbin I'm turning wood now for 25years and like natural edge . The "Its hip to be square" bowls earnd me a "Wow" from fellow turners. Next will be the "MOOD OWL" and the Tiny, triangular tube vase" . Lies & you make the videos very entertaining and meaningful. Every move is professional and need attention to pick up details/hints. I have subscribed and follow from now on.

I am a new subscriber to your very interesting and different wood turning style and presentations. Complimented by your skilful videographer ( love the little background giggles-you compliment each other very well. Although it is two years ago since your four legged companion, Beau, crossed the rainbow bridge to play with my little girl of 16 years a bit over two years ago, they are sharing the next part of their journey, and one day we will meet again. It still hurts. Thank you for sharing your skill and fascinating projects. Greetings from Tasmania Australia.👍😁🇦🇺🦘

Absolutely the most amazing piece of wood you have put up a video of. Here in the desert of Arizona, no Yew is readily available. We do however have a LOT of Mesquite. I will work out an exchange with anyone who can trade some substantial pieces (around 25cm x whatever) and who knows what wonderful results may come. Love your video style and excellent teaching method.

I am a weekend wood turner from Dannebrog, NE, USA, the Danish capital of Nebraska and I just recently subscribed and thoroughly enjoy your videos, working my way through them. I enjoy getting inspiration and ideas from other turners. Unfortunately, there are no other turners near me, and no turning clubs in my area, so youtube is an important source of ideas and instruction for me. You have a great style and your videos are very relaxing to watch. Thank you for sharing your skills and artistry.

Hi Ronald, first my condolence for the loss of Beau! I guess this little pice of yew, brought by your camera women was more or less a way to cheer you up and I guess this worked. You created again something new and special and this pretty spontaneously, if we believe in your video :-) I like this a lot, specially as a beginner who tries to get his finger on every little pice of scrap wood and than it piles up in the workshop with no idea what to do about this. Well done! And I am only wondering why you started the hollowing before finishing the outside. Specially because you know that it would be pretty unstable after the hollowing process... Since I have seen all the different kind of machines standing in your workshop, a kind of comparison between those would be really nice! But maybe the best thing to get an idea of the difference is to visit one of your courses, which is definitely planed before buying a better lathe! Looking forward to new videos on any topic! Best Mario

Talking about comparing your different machines, it would be really interesting to see how they behave for unbalanced wood. I mean they have different bed concepts, some fixed head stock etc. I guess in your shop it would be nice to compare those.

@ronaldkanne
@ronaldkanne 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The tool I use in the end is a 13 mm spindle gouge. grinded a bit more pointy than usual I guess. There is a huge difference between the Mega 2 from Munro and the Midi Revolution from Crown. In size, cutter, shaving limiter, etc. The Midi is suitable for small work as the Munro can do much bigger vases... Grtz Ronald

How do you dry and store your wood properly?
@ronaldkanne
@ronaldkanne 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Bart, the answer to that question could be a day filling course...😊 there is a lot to say about the drying process. A few rules that i follow: i seal the endgrain parts. I leave the pith out and if the wood is thicker then 80 mm I preturn, let dry further and finish turn... I try to avoid direct sunlight on the wood in order to avoid big differences in temperature. I try to dry slowly, and very important, controled... if possible in a room where is always more or less the same humidity... Grtz Romald

Hi Rickey, Yew contains Taxol. A poison indeed. The Taxol is mainly in the green parts, but also in the sap and a bit in the wood. Taxol is used in some chemo treatments, among other things.
