YFZ450 Clutch Mods

@struckran bigger springs mean harder clutch lever pull along with a more positive engagement of the clutch.but if you still have the small fiber and 2 metal rings in the back you can still get a little slip that is why alot of people replace them with a stock fiber.

@rebelchild41 from what i have checked all the YFZ's that have this style clutch setup with the 2 metal rings and skinny fiber plate in the back can be swapped out for with a regular fiber just like the other fibers in the clutch.

i havent checked the prices as of yet but i would think around $150-250.make sure to order the clutch from the same year YZ450f as your quad that way u don't have any compatability issues. also always buy Genuine Yamaha Clutch parts they are better then any after market and will also last longer then any after market.

@brandon184839 its good if it doesn't turn on. if it does your bikes getting hot and if it stays on too long you should think about giving your quad a break for a couple minutes. The fan will normally keep going till you turn the key off or it cools down.

@o1m3r2a4 the 700's have a similar clutch setup with the thinner friction and 2 metal rings but they also have a differant steel plate then the rest that are in the clutch.i am not posative but i think you may be able to replace that single steel with a steel just like in the rest of the clutch then put a new fiber in just like the other fibers.i have not tested this on the 660's or the 700's yet so i can't garentee it will work great.also always buy OEM Yamaha clutches as the work the best.

@AndrettiDog sry i have not checked that yet but i will be testing it this weekend since my buddy was stupid and bought a Tusk clutch kit and burned it out after 1 race,now i have to pull the tusk out and put an OEM one in.i will take a look at the diagram and if they are the same i will test the single plate change.i will post the results.

i am waiting on one of my friends to get some cash to get the parts to do a top end job on his quad.once he gets the money for his parts i will do up a video on it showing how put it all back together.

your lower clutch arm may be out of adjustment there should be an arrow on the case that lines up with a mark on the clutch actuator arm if they are out of alighment it could cause the problem.

alot of people i know that have tried the tusk clutch kits don't really like them. i myself will not use anything but OEM on my Yamaha's because Yamaha makes the most durable clutches for there bikes and quads.

does it really matter if the fiber discs are are bigger if your putting the old springs back in?...bigger springs means more tension so u can give it more power right? the dirt racer clutch kits have smaller discs but with the bigger springs they work better....

yea my clutch is weird when i try to hit 2nd gear it wont do it but if i use my hand it goes to 2nd gear and all the rest are easy any suggestions?

on my yfz i ordered a tusk clutch and every third tooth on the fiber plate is notched,do u think i recived the wrong clutch?

by sticking do you mean that when you pulled in the cclutch it would still be engaged and moving the bike.

Mine do this right now and i dont know what to do. If i put in 1st gear and get the clutch in it die or on the start he just try to go

The rings you took out stop the friction plate wearing out the clutch basket and heating up your clutch not a good idea

Absolutely correct! For those that don't race or want the added benefits of more bite in your clutch - DO NOT DO THIS - those plates that have been removed stop the friction and fibre plates eating into the inner hub basket .

hey i just got a 2008 yfz450 and it has a fan on the radiator but it doesn't turn on. does it turn on when it gets really hot or is it suppose to come on automatically. please let me know thanks

Brandon Burton watch that fan .. i got an 08 that the fan didnt come on when supposed to and blew my bike up ... one mod alot of us do is hard wire with a toggle
