The YHA hostel just south of Brecon is called Brecon Beacon YHA. It used to be called, back years ago, Llwyn-y-celyn. I’m visiting here for a two-night stay and have bunk beds in the shared male dorm room downstairs.
It is mid-March so the area is still looking very winter-like and this weekend the weather is a bit drab, at least in the evenings and mornings. However, inside the hostel is bright, well, kept and just what a trekker (or cyclist or whatever….) wants of a hostel.
Some of the YHAs in use are more modern, fully upgraded or even built as new. This one is not like that at all. It has charm and a character like you would expect of a countryside hostel.
I hope you enjoy watching this video and feel that you have tagged along with me during my visit.

I used to love a YHA when I was travelling. Haven't stayed in one for years. This has made me want to visit again. Nice one.

Hostels are great for travelling along longer treks. They offer some comfort and break up endless nights in a tent. This one is ideally located in the Brecons - so easy to get to from so many peaks and routes around. Cheers mate, Warren :)

Hey Mr TBJ, welcome to my channel :) Thanks for the encouragement and feedback; much valued. More like this on the way as I'm up to the Peak District very soon and will be residing in some other fine YHA establishments in and around that area. Cheers, Warren :)

Great review Warren, I've never stayed in one, I'm a bit of a private person and would hate to share a room with strangers, so a private room for me unless I know my room mates. Looks fairly decent that YH 👍

YHAs have small rooms too, so good for singles or just a couple of folk etc. The dorm rooms take a bit of working out and getting used to but most folk in them are good I find. The trick is to not spend too much time in them and keep gear together. I've used the high Alpine huts and in them it's like sardines, literally! I will be back out in my tent as soon as I can though, space and freedom is the best :) Cheers, Warren

Most YHAs are very similar no matter where you go. Unfortunately today because of rising costs of operating they have greatly raised prices for simple facilities but still a fun place to rest up. Parking seems to be an issue everywhere also with the cost if real estate niw. Thanks Warren for showing this one. Bushyboy Oz.

The basics are standard I guess with hostels. And you are right about the costs going up. They used to be comparatively really cheap but not quite so these days. Thanks for following along with this one. Cheers, Warren :)
