By default, the Yi camera records to the micro SD card and if you subscribe to their cloud storage, the Yi will still record to the card and the cloud is basically acts as a back up.

I'm assuming you took off the micro SD card from the camera and wanting to watch the footage. You can just plug in the SD card in your computer and look at the files...they are broken up on folders ..they are MP4 files.

You said you 'downloaded' a video to your phone. From what I can see in the app, I can only download the 6 second clip you get when you're given a motion alert. Is there a way to download the entire clip from the camera/SD card (outside of taking the SD card out and putting manually transferring the files to your computer)?

Yes, you have to view the footage and click on the record - motion camera icon..and you can record to however long you want... When you are viewing the motion alert footage which is only 6 seconds, wait for it to finish and there will be an option to view the whole footage..

Yes, you can VIEW the entire clip, but when you press that icon to watch it the download icon is no longer available, so I was asking how you DOWNLOAD the entire clip. I just figured out, however, that while you are playing back the entire clip, you can RECORD what you are playing to your phone. This seems counter intuitive, but I guess it is something. The problem is that you have to record it so it takes a long time to actually get the video.

I've had my 4 Yi Home Cameras for about 3 years now. In the general, they are inexpensive, medium quality cameras. Over my 3 years of use, I've noticed a few issues... 1) The sound quality is not very good. When the video is viewed live with sound or captured from the SD Card and played back as an MP4 the sound has always had a rhythmic hum or something that makes it exceedingly difficult to hear conversations in the video. It's not quite as bad as a feedback squeal, but more like an oscillating low frequency hum (think of a fan in the background going from off to high over and over again). I've lived in 2 different homes while using these so it's not the room or the house causing the sound issues. 2) The video captured to the SD card is stored in hundreds of 1-minute clips and you are required to use the Yi App to capture the portions of the stored video that you want to retain and not have written over. This capture function runs as long as you want and stores the video as an MP4 file on the device running the app. You could grab the original 1-minute video clips from the card but then would need a video editor to merge them into a single video. No matter how close my phone is to the camera, or the camera is to my WiFi router, or even if they all three are piled on top of each other, 90% of the times I am capturing video I get a network error! Any network error will cause that portion of the captured video to pixelate for several seconds, or the sound will cut out and then not sync up correctly afterwards, or the screen turns green for a bit or the entire captured video file will end up corrupt and won't play. Of course, the app doesn’t alert you, so you don’t know how the video is affected until you’re done capturing and play it back. And if you didn't catch this corruption issue in time, your camera may have already written over the original 1-minute video clips and your footage is gone forever. 3) During the most recent software update the app viewer was modified and now it has a vertical green bar at each end of the viewer that cuts off about 1/10th of the image. They didn't scale down the entire screen, they just chopped off 1/10th of the video's image at each end, giving you a narrower field of vision. The Support people can't give a reason for this useless and irritating update to a viewer that worked perfectly fine as it was. - - So that's my review and experience using the Yi Home Camera for the past 3 years.

I bought them several weeks after my first camera. Your video helped me realize exactly how to scan the QR codes (I was holding the screens too close together). This is a Chinese device and I am skeptical of connecting it to my wifi, and then downloading an app in my phone to setup. I don't want to connect to a chinese ran website/app that I also have my personal computer on. Is this a risk that the Chinese Communist Gov't, which is authoritative and totalitarian in its ruling of country (including businesses), could possibly impose on my privacy? either monitoring or hacking? (TIkTok has been banned in many countries, and maybe US, for this reason). I only want to use the SD Card, which is what sold me, and set-up should be accomplished thru connecting a device USB direct to computer (or just use default settings) -standard in devices but not this one which makes me more skeptical .

So why can you NOT view activity without alerts on the SD card anymore? One older camera is set up that way. My newer 1080p will not just record activity. It has to send alerts to my phone. Also, appears YI is really pushing the Kami cloud service at a cost. Seems set ups changed since the latest update. I own many of these and they worked well for my needs. Now I wish I purchased another brand. YI support is useless as they only know how to keep replying with the same set up instructions. I know how to perform that!

I'll reply to my own comment. YI support (after back -n-fourth emails with 4 different names) finally admitted the newer cameras DO NOT just record activity on the SD card with no alerts. Its either on with alerts or no SD recording. YI now wants your $$$ for Kami Cloud service. 🤑I suggest staying away from these cameras. Great camera until now.😠

On the app, you can setup as many cameras but you will only be able to view one camera at a time. There is a PC app/program that you can connect your account and you will be able to view 4 cameras at a time. The Yi Home cameras are for indoor use only and needs to be plugged in. At this time, Yi doesn't have a battery powered WiFi camera. Checking the footage can be done on the app and you don't have to remove the micro SD card.

The cloud storage is only through Yi..Check out their pricing... their max is 30 days either motion only recording up to 5 cameras for $15/month or $150 /yr and if you want 24/7 recording for 30 days, $20/month or $200/yr.

I installed my cameras last night using my cell phone. Today I left to work and was only able to view the camera when the motion detector was activated, and viewed only a 6 second Clip of the video. When I wanted to access the camera itself and watch the camera live I was unable to do to a connection issue. I was only able to view the camera when I got back home and my cell phone connected back to wifi. How can I watch the camera live when I am away from home?

You should be able to view it live. You can close the app and restart it. When you click on the camera, it will automatically show you the live view.

Yes, if somebody takes the camera or removes the micro SD card, then that footage will be lost. Yi offers cloud recording as a backup and then you can retrieve the footage in the cloud.

Your wife needs to install it using her phone and then she can use the share feature or just give you the email and password that she used to make the account and you download the app and log in, then you will be able to access the camera.

Yi uses camera/pixel based motion detection which is not as accurate as PIR detection and you will get alerts from leaves and tree movement. Try using the motion zoning and see if it helps canceling out areas where there are trees/leaves.

I have three of the home cameras and the only problems I keep having are: I'm intermittently asked to login to my account before I can see my cams, AND the intro to how to use the cameras shows up now and again. Emailed Yi, but never got a response. Is there a way to correct these issues?
