Did you know after their latest update they took away our option of viewing videos on a memory card unless we pay? I have videos stored and I can't view them unless I pay. Before you could pay for cloud storage or get a memory card. I have a memory card and I don't need to pay for the storage when. I used it and now I can't access it without paying. I own 5 cameras and this update completely made them all useless to me.

Good Afternoon Security Baron, I have YI indoor cameras and works well during the day, and night vision is ok ( my camera point thru a window to outdoor area). I have the Night Vision turned off due to IR flashing and reflecting off the window. Now I have been looking to add outdoor camera that does better with night Vision and larger field of view. Also of course clarity at night mainly. I do not have platform I have to have like Google, etc. I have 1 light by front door that is on motion so most of the light is off unless motion is detected. Just looking what you feel is a nice choice for this application? I dont know if you recommend a Nest IQ outdoor? Or an Arlo or Ring? Thanks for all videos and information. Really enjoy all of mine you spend in your reviews. I always enjoy watching them. Keep up fantastic job.
@SecurityDotOrg4 жыл бұрын
Hi there, First of all, your camera can't detect motion through glass, so you'll need to actually place the outdoor camera outdoors. I'd recommend getting the YI Outdoor because you'll be able to use the same app for everything. But if that's not important to you, Nest and Arlo outdoor cameras are the highest quality. More info on both here: Nest Cam IQ Outdoor: bit.ly/2EPVIGT Arlo Pro 3: bit.ly/2kXrzPe

Great and informative video. I have a question: Would I still be able to use the app with the notifications, 2-way speakers, etc WITHOUT using the cloud service? Hi Space Rain, if you aren't comfortable with Yi, maybe try a different company. Everyone is, to some extent, vulnerable to a leak, so I would use an alternate email and an original password of course.

from everything you said, there were a lot of repeats.For instance , on the field of vision, and showing the night vision. Yet for all of that, you never once showed how it is connected to the house, to get its power. Highly important in my mind.

I'm trying to use the IP Camera Viewer App on Roku with my 4 new YI Outdoor cameras, but I am at a loss as to how I can find the 'IP' for each cam. Any advice?
@SecurityDotOrg4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jamie, I've never used this app but looking at it online, I see there's a button that says Add New Camera. IP just means Internet Protocol, meaning the camera uses Wi-Fi, so it doesn't refer to a specific number. If your camera and Roku are on the same Wi-Fi network, you should be able to find it when you click add camera. If that doesn't work, I'd contact Roku directly: support.roku.com/contactus More info in the YI Outdoor camera here: bit.ly/2np8vdU

My personal preference would be a PTZ camera. That being said, another important feature is interoperability for those cameras. App is all nice and dandy, but if you run multiple cameras, it'd also be good if they operate with common camera solutions. ZoneMinder or Tiny Cam Monitor for example, or any of the dozens of other software packages. Next point: Cloud storage. Don't rely on it. If you Internet connection goes down, so does your cloud storage. Local storage is safer, and can often be accessed remotely as well. Some cameras do automatically cache and resend, but most don't. And lastly, my usual gripe: No word about how secure the camera is? How is the access control, how is multi-user access management, where does the data reside geographically etc.pp.? Hacking cameras is often completely trivial, and YI has a pretty lousy track record in that department.
@SecurityDotOrg5 жыл бұрын
I haven't reviewed any of those cameras, but thanks for the suggestion! My info on my security camera methodology here: bit.ly/2JXmxLD

Nice camera, but wireless is where it’s at. I don’t like the aesthetic of a wire running down an exterior wall to a power outlet.
@SecurityDotOrg5 жыл бұрын
I'm also a fan of wireless! Here's a list of my favorite wireless cameras: bit.ly/2OVjEzW
@acmbikes4 жыл бұрын
Wireless are great for what they do and very clean easy install, but they aren’t very reliable as surveillance cameras. If you need a true surveillance camera, you will need the camera to record continuously. Thusly, hard wired power or PoE system is required. That said, you can use a wireless camera as a backup or supplement to a continuously recording camera system.
@debatnej6814 Жыл бұрын
Really bad, you can't use it with mucro sd, too much notifications and can't watch the record if you don't pay for a cloud plan. Really disappointed.

@christophersawtelle25584 жыл бұрын
The PC software is garbage. If you want to use it as a video surveillance setup you are out of luck. It constantly times out and pauses the cameras and there is no way to bypass this so that it will stay active with live streams all the time. YI technical support is non-existent. If you go to facebook to try to get support they will tell you to call or email. Both result in NOTHING, they never respond. If you challenge them on this on facebook they will block you. Really crappy.
