Matte has no shine while satin has a little bit of shining.

+Xx_SpaceRift_xX It's about directionality of reflected light. Matte diffuses light to the point where it never looks shiny. Satin will look shiny, but it diffuses light well enough that the light it's directional enough to show any reflection. Gloss is shiny, diffuses light very little, so you can start to see reflections, and a "hard" shine. Chrome is mirror-like.
