In my mind, when removed from the context of the game (or at least maybe placed in the context it was supposed to be in) this song is pretty powerful. Meeting a mysterious new person. Beautiful, charming, unpredictable, and quickly becoming infatuated. You have a connection with this person. You can’t quite explain it, but you need to know more. But just before you can enjoy the feeling, it gets ripped away from you. Bittersweet, almost. Instead we have two of the most annoying people in the world talking to each other.

alex didnt meet sammy, he just saw the video of her on the internet(that he is not in, despite us seeing him witness the disappearance), and the factory hotel is a metaphor for his mental image of what a missing girl on the internet is like based on ONISM posts describing her. it’s why there’s a room in the factory hotel that looks very similar to alex’s bedroom(implying he didnt actually leave the house to find the cat), and afterwards he says in a monologue that “some details were pure fabrication on my part”. also whenever alex uses Dali, he opens his mouth as if he’s imitating a cat noise, so he doesnt actually have the cat. it’s interesting with this added context because its an idealistic version of a person he’s never met and its a bit unnerving that he would view her like this. the song also feels almost dreamy too.

2ndJ3ss3 Fl0ur1t3 Too much monologing, slow combat, useless puzzles, boring enemy design, generally bad writing, some of the music is really off in a bad way (unlike Earthbound), and there are a lot of random bad decisions all around. However, some of the music is good and the aesthetic is alright as well. I like some of the ideas in the game as well. I just wish things were more well implemented and the writing didn’t suck.
