Not gonna lie, I gotta give the devs props for how much they've stuck with this. The game has been mocked and criticized for as long as it's been released, and yet the devs still want to keep improving it. Pretty cool.

Feels more like delusion. "If I put in more stuff people will like it!" Problem is, the issue people had with it wasn't that there was too little stuff in it like with most indie games that become beloved later due to a bunch of updates. It was that there was too much stuff and a lot of it was cringy. I just feel like adding more stuff won't make people appreciate the game, it will just give people who hate it more things to criticize and internet reviewers more things to mock.

@@qty1315 That's a bit cynical. Sure, YIIK had issues, but I don't think said issues can't be fixed with the updates. I'd rather have the game attempt to improve itself rather than it just sit in mediocrity while the devs refuse to acknowledge it's flaws.

@@ajgameguy3674 YIIK's whole identity is based on being cynical. I'm all for games improving, sure. But, if they want people to like their game they have to listen to why people didn't like it and base the improvements on that, which I don't think they're doing at all. People complained that there was too much dialogue, and the combat system was fine but underutilized. I think that the stated goal of adding 8 more hours of dialogue and changing the combat system is going to improve how people perceive the game because it isn't really fixing the flaws in the meal, it's adding an order of fries and a salad to the meal the customer didn't like and heating it up in the microwave hoping that they'll leave a good review on Yelp. Just give them a new meal that isn't bad, refund them their money or attempt to move on to create a new game now that YIIK's notoriety has given their studio notoriety. I and most small indie developers would have loved to have a game gain the attention that YIIK did even if it's bad because being known for being awful is at least being known for something, and it's irritating seeing them use that attention in such a way. If they want to go this route, a stand-alone free sequel/prequel is probably the better way to go, not this.

Significant improvement in terms of Cutscenes. The game's style really shines when the characters are actually doing things instead of simply standing around. Gonna give the game a fair shot when the update drops. Also the music in this trailer is the bomb. Hope to hear in game.

It is not a bad game at it's core. It is the same with No Man's Sky. It is a good core surrounded by badly executed parts. Yiik could be great. They worked super hard for so long and then rushed the product out the door because they had to. If Omori released when they had originally planned to have it out we would all be laughing at Omori, too.

The more I hear about YIIK, the more fascinated I am, and with this to look forward to, I think I joined the cult at a good time. I sincerely wish the devs the best, there has been some great analysis of why the original was bad, hope they've seen it. I want this game to be the best it can be, if only because I love some of the surreal imagery in it.

@@drgraphix2912 Oney, a KZbinr did a full playthrough of the game, he hated it but in a good way. Hes known the voice actor for Alex well before the game and recently he was on Oney's channel for the sole cause of getting him to voice whatever Oney wants. Oney has yet to upload the final episode, which as we know, the ending is pure garbage. Oney is making his own ending. This trailer suddenly uploaded a week after Alex's VA appeared on Oneyplays.

I know a lot of people made fun of this game when it first came out and I definitely understood the issues people pointed out with it, I could never really hate on this game because to me it really just felt like it was incomplete more than anything, like it needed a second draft. And I think this could be the second draft that the game deserves.

As cool as it is that this is getting a re-release, I'm kind of cynical about them actually fixing gameplay, dialogue, and story problems. The cutscenes look great! But the game's art style was always pretty charming. I wanna see some actual improvement. Cause this definitely has potential to be great.

Combat is overhauled, they are probably going to make the levelling system less of a fun joke and more functional, and based on all the footage, they definitely seem to be making the story more explicit - that is, making it so stuff like "Michael doesn't exist", "the whole game takes place in Alex's mind in the 2010s" and "Alex dies in the non-standard ending" aren't missed by 90% of the audience this time around. The dialogue, integral to the game's feel, is going to be largely the same. There seem to be some new scenes and I would assume some new lines there, but mostly the classic YiiK performances you know and... know.

YiiK is a video game with the fun post-modern twist of having most of its difficulty centered not in the mechanics, but in the narrative and role play.

It looks like they are overhauling the whole story to include Asuka and the Red haired girl (Who's probably Carrie). I hope they take the criticism to heart. It's clear they wish to fix the issues of YIIK and I'm glad they have the hindsight to admit that the game wasn't the best it could be. All I wish is that they take what we say and do good on their promises. YIIK truly is a special case when it comes to earthbound likes because it's one of the only ones that mostly focus on the lighter hearted elements aside from the citizens duology. Great as they may be games like Lisa, OFF and Omori (Which I consider the holy trinity of Earthbound likes) basically exclusively focus on the darker aspects.

Theory Time: They're going to change the ending of the original game to fit into everything the update is going to introduce. I predict that the plug that Alex and his counterpart pulled at the end of the game is going to be changed from combining all realities to unleashing both Essentia 995 and Proto-Alex from Alex's Soul and having their own. The universe will be reset but Essentia and Proto-Alex, who is most likely going to be named Wilfred like how he originally was called in alpha stages, will be out causing universal havoc and dimension hopping. This'll explain why all the crazy shit is happening in the trailer, why Carrie seems to be alive, why striped-shirt Micheal is going bananas, why the gang seems to be in a city, why real Micheal is there, and everything in between. Honest to gods, this actually sounds pretty fricken cool, miles better and more interesting than what we got in the main game. It keeps the modern theme while also delving more into the science fiction aspect the game dabbled in originally. There's definitely a lot more to talk about YiiK than just the bad aspects now.
