I was just leveled up so high by time I got to him, he wasn’t too overwhelming. Was still a nail biter victory for me but got him on my 5-6 attempt after some trial and error.

Nice! Yes he gets easier when you're on a higher level with better equipment, as you deal more damage to him. Still have to dodge as he don't stagger easily like the rest.

how do you withstand so many hits? i get hit twice and im dead already

Maxing out the Health and Defence skill under the Survival tree helps a lot.
