Max was...complicated and unsure of herself, at least in the moderate way I played her. And I personally liked her cringe dialogue. It felt suitably like a girl who hadn't grown into herself yet, just regurgitating what her peer group found funny. Or I might just have a terrible sense of tHe YoUtH that's just as likely. But yeah Chloe is, no matter how you slice it, a humongous piece of shit who doesnt even TRY with people she doesnt like. And barely tries with people she does.

As someone with parents who split and remarried while I was still growing up, watching her tear down her stepdad at every single opportunity without a second of remorse or any thought for the people around her is fucking disgusting. I know relationships with step-parents often start out rough (mine did), because trust has to be earned, but the way this teenager treats her mom's husband is just so unreasonably cruel. I'd genuinely rather see a game centered around his life, and how he has to make the most of it and be a decent stepdad and husband.

I am literally not joking, Before the Storm makes me hate Chloe more, and the only person worse than her is Rachel, and I can't help but wonder if maybe that's what someone intended at the back of their head. Like, Rachel is the most toxic up-her-own-ass selfish person on the planet, amplified further by the Drama club stroking her ego, and also that whole deal with her parents convincing her she's a tragic victim. I almost want to picture an alternative scenario where Rachel didn't die, but continued a self-destructive relationship with Chloe that ruined her and made her a worse person, but then Max swoops in, and through some friendly interractions slowly talks sense into them. Yeah, I really want a scenario where the timid and passionate Max makes Chloe and Rachel realise how terrible they are, literally doing what Todd did in Bojack Horseman; tell them "You are all the things that are wrong with you, it's not the money, or the drugs, or whatever shitty thing your maybe non-parents did to you when you were young Rachel, or whatever David is or isn't towards you Chloe! It's YOU. Okay? It's YOU."
