Movie executives seem to have completely forgotten that movie soundtracks can be fun and energetic, not just slow and epic. The entire reason the Indiana Jones theme was so recognizable was because it got you pumped and ready for an adventure, why the hell would you slow it down to the point where all the carefully timed notes just sound awkward?

It strikes me that considering they have these studios for trailers now that no film trailers will be using real orchestras. No doubt they try multiple cuts to see which will be the most marketable before sending the final version out. Why would you hire an orchestra when one guy can do it with a computer and almost nobody watching it will be able to tell the difference. I doubt any Film trailers have orchestras record for them.

The music thing... Yes, it sounds synthetic, but this is also what happens when you add far too many instruments playing all the same note. The same was true of the soundtrack to the new 'Lion King.' Hans Zimmer, whom I genuinely love and respect (at least for his past performance), had all those stupid drum sets playing in unison which lent itself to sounding synthetic because the nuanced differences between individual artist styles are completely lost. Sometimes this works beautifully; Eric Whiticre's earth choir for "Deep Field" comes to mind. It's purposeful and it works. But in these newer, high budget nestalogic film monstrosities, they do it simply in an effort to add grandeur, which, ironically, ends up perfectly paralleling the the unoriginal, money grabbing hot garbage these films end up becoming. Nothing irritates me more than an absolutely legendary soundtrack that was written for a dumpster fire of a movie. I doubt we'll have that issue here.
