a millimeter is not going to make a huge difference? It'll make a very easily noticeable difference. If you don't believe me, grab any guitar with a humbucker, adjust the screw under any string, and listen to how different and how out of balance with the other strings it will sound. Now imagine that in a single coil where you're not only changing the height of one of the coils' pole pieces, since there is only one coil.

@guitar199719 жыл бұрын
***** Not so much thinner. Just listen to Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top he has guitars strung with 7s and tone the size of Texas. However yes it does affect the tone in a rather drastic way that is too often overlooked by a great many players.
@precbsfender9 жыл бұрын
nylonsteel Bottom line... You always sacrifice tone loss with lighter gauge strings... We've done some serious tone testing with 7's, 8's, 9's up against 10's, 11's, 12's and believe me there's a absolute Huge Tone difference ..I guess it comes down to sacrificing tone for speed because the heavier the strings the harder they are to move or bend..Also LOL those Billy Gibbons little girl 7's snapped like brittle hair so we had to tune a whole step down to be able to test them properly.. Ernie Ball Cobalt10's had the best tone results by far..
@Archer250010037759 жыл бұрын

@Djarra9 жыл бұрын
PRE CBS STRATOCASTER'S It's not the diameter, the gauge, that makes the difference it is the real weight of the metal in the string. A good string which costs a bit more will have more winding and more metal in it so a smaller gauge will be fine. A cheap string with have the bare minimum metal in it so you end up with large gauges and you limit how you can play. If you are going to experiment then get a fine scale, the type you can get at the local head shop (lol) and snip an inch out of a bunch of strings of the same gauge by different makers and you'll be shocked at the differences.

I'll say this much, it's one thing to listen to Yngwie on a CD or watch a KZbin video of him…those things are easy to step away from or turn-off/tune out. In person, the dude is the maestro…it's not just about his playing or his speed or the lines or the vibrato… The dude IS exactly what the pictures say, exactly how you expect him to be, puts on a show like NO ONE else..and he commands the audience. I was one of those idiots who thought, "Yngwie sucks.." until I saw him live at the Guitar Gods show when he saw me in a crowd..walked over and shred a personal masterclass 2 inches from my face. As for the persons continuing to state their negative opinions about the guys work, attitude etc. that's the easy thing to do…what he does is virtuoso.

On the 3rd of Dec 1996 Yngwie came to my hometown of Newcastle upon Tyne England to do a clinic. After the clinic he went to the bar for a drink and wound up to my amazement in company with myself and my few friends that were with me that evening. We didn't hound him and were excited obviously but we gave him his space and conversed with him as we would normally. He was polite and not the big ego guy he's made out to be. I'll never forget that evening.

What people ignore is that all those Marshalls are there for show, actually his sound comes from a small solid state amp in the background and distortion through a Boss DS1.

The "King of Cadenzas". Spectacular technique. I love Yngwie. Some of his old interviews in guitar magazines are hilarious.

Yngwie's got that unmistakeable charisma and attitude and thats really what makes him great. He has a great sound too. That Plexi circuit is a classic. Except his pitch for the pickups though. Try Bill Lawrence L298s, they're super awesome.

Gotta love the guy! Man he is a huge inspiration of mines and is a reason why I was interested in playing guitar during high school. I’m really fortunate to own his fender signature Strat and my recently required Marshall yjm 100 head.

@@sdime9858 Because he is not looking like a 20 year old anymore. His hair extensions get in the way when he play his scalar runs.lol He was a good guitar player once, but he dont own the ability to renew himself. He keeps on with his harmonic minor. dim scale circus.

@@nevigo5519 Annnnd what have you done for the wider guitar community in general? Just because he isn't like Jeff Beck doesn't mean his talent or ability is irrelevant. His sound is his signature and that is what makes an artist iconic.

This guy's live tone is truly amazing. He got me using 50w Plexi's 25yrs ago. His new 100w head is great as well (in 50w mode). I'm a Luthier & open a lot of new guitars as they come in. The fit & finish of the YJM Strats are impeccable. The fretwork is perfect every time. He used to do a lot of coke & say stupid shit, but he backs up what he says about his endorsed gear. He's thoroughly involved with his gear & he uses what he endorses.

I put a Les Paul style knob on mine and use my little finger as a volume pedal. I turned my Telecasters control plates upside down as I used to catch the switch. changed the volume round tho'. I noticed that Fender do that on some models now. I work as a guitar tech and have bought pickguard blanks and altered the control spacings for people who feel the same as you.

Clapton and Beck will not share the stage with Yngwie. Clapton never invites him to the blues festivals. Trust me, Yngwie will put them to shame and without even trying! Blues players jaws drop with his vibrato alone! Yngwie and Stevie Ray Vaughan are guitar legends with respect!
@DeadGlassEyes7 жыл бұрын
That's what pisses me off. Everyone thinks that he is just about speed. He has amazing phrasing, legato and especially vibrato. His bending is insane. He would wipe the floors with most blues players. He did in fact grow up on Hendrix.

Well on the G-3 tour Yngwie's "Blues" chops well lets say that "Blues" is NOT his forte. One of the most impactful records ever on me was Rising Force is an Album that moved me like no other record has. It was after the suicide of my brother I was listening to it & all the anger fury I felt was in that album the beautiful parts the Epic & tragic feelings whilst drinking heavily listening to Rising Force I felt that Force Rise & began surge w/a Fury inside I started to destroy my home but it was cathartic. I saw him 3 times nothing compares to Rising Force his best work imo. He help me get that out of my system. Very Powerful Album.

Guy learned his chops by sheer dedication and insatiable drive and vision,He,s belongs in that "european" feel of Roth,Blackmore,Shenker etc due to his melodic and classical breeding.This is the guitarist that made me stop playing for 10 years a s i was shocked when i saw the Lenningrad video (remember videos?,But also inspired me to later in life to re think the guitar and listen to Bach,other composers etc.You have to recognise how important this guy is to music once you get past the widdly widdly image,Truly inspiring!!
