@@512banana1 Might be so you can make several at once with the silicone molds?
@primecapsartisans47983 жыл бұрын
@@Sunndial Yep, you pop your master back in then pour silicone behind it to make a butt mold, this is what you will use for production. Using silicone butts instead of the metal synth will make demolding easier and reduce wear on the synth.

I cant tell you how awesome this is to see you guys have a youtube channel now! I've been following your builds and Instagram since the beginning. I still have the little 3D printed box you and your wife made for my first custom keycap. I really hope to see you expand this channel and show maybe how to do multi colored caps and what not. I mean don't reveal the secrets to your incredibly beautiful Cloud Chasers, but kinda point us in the direction!

That is so awesome to hear! I haven't thought about our old work for a while, I can't tell you how cool it is to hear from one of our first customers again. I do want to add more to this channel, though it has been a challenge finding the time to make more videos. I'm hoping to have a bit more wiggle room once it starts to warm up in the spring. Thank you so much for your support over the years!

Been out of the game for almost 2 years now, but this looks like what I need to get back into it! Was pulling my hair out trying to make decent molds, and was wasting big $ on silicone. Looking forward to ordering one soon!

Yeah they really do the trick for making quick and easy molds. I spoke with the manufacturer and he said they have another batch coming in the next few weeks.

what kind of pressure tank do you use?
@wyattsharp26753 жыл бұрын
Is there an approximate volume of silicon you should use? I'm not looking for anything exact or keycap specific, but I'm about to pour my first mold and want to save as much silicon as possible. I also don't want to undershoot.

do you need to have a specific sculpt thing (bought separately?) and for the pressure thing...Do you NEED to have that? or can you do another method or maybe even a pressure cooker? lol srs

Hello, where could I find an example of stem pressurize machine? What is the purpose of doing it?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by stem pressurize machine. Pressurizing the mold will remove bubbles from the finished casting.

Quick question. Is the mold/base able to withstand high temps in the oven? Or is there another better process for baking the clay?
@hungerworkstudio57735 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, you can easily approach temperatures in excess of what it would take to bake polymer clay.

It says this on their website: At 100C the magnetism is reduced, but will regain strength when cooled At 200C the magnetism will never regain strength At 250-300C+ may cause a 'cracking' appearance on the synth (the anodization creates a discoloration that looks like cracks)
@WTFridgerator5 жыл бұрын
Hey, something I'm still kind of confused about (sorry I'm new to this process) is Step Nine. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the purpose of that step to make a silicone version of the metal part of the $ynth where you originally sculpt the cap on? So then after this step you would have 2 silicone parts; 1 to pour resin into, and then the second part (made in this step) goes on top to create the underside of the cap (with the stem hole and all). You could then essentially repeat this process with the same sculpt so you can produce multiple of the same cap at the same time, correct?
@primecapsartisans47985 жыл бұрын
Yes, that one of the methods for making a two part mold. I usually recommend doing this as it reduces the wear and tear on the metal synth parts.
@WTFridgerator5 жыл бұрын
Gotcha, thank you! Another question I had was, is a vacuum chamber for the silicone necessary? I'll probably have to get one anyway for the resin casting process, but I was curious about having it also for the silicone step.
@primecapsartisans47985 жыл бұрын
@@WTFridgerator Really, everything should be vacuumed for best results. The vacuum chamber was one of the first tools we purchased and we use it often, so I would say it is an important tool for casting.

what did you use to fill in the sprue holes?

Clay will do....or whatever you used to sculpt with. if using 2 part apoxie sculpt, only use the "B"...do not mix with the "A" as this will make it cure.

I see the stem for Cherry and Cherry compatibles, but does your device help with making Alps/APC/Omron keycaps?
@hungerworkstudio57735 жыл бұрын
It would be a matter of forming one's own silicone stem using the base platform for other center locking/stem mounting types.
