The very early 80s malmsteen is absolutely mind blowing talent

Yngwie was playing tremendous guitar in the mid-80s. He played melodious, fast, idea-filled phrases with great clarity. I could listen to Yngwie's guitar at this period for 24 hours straight without a break!
@jakelee7639

Agreed,..but after his car accIdent he hasn’t been the same, just a parody of himself,...mindless fast nonsense now, crappy phrasing, not much melodic ideas, even his wide dramatic vibrato isn’t the same,....it’s really too bad, from alcarrazz up to odyseey no one could come close
@yanava
@yanava 2 жыл бұрын
@@jakelee7639 it has nothing to do with the accident. Even in shows before the accident Yngwie was already starting to get lazy, repeat a lot of lines between songs. He not only did not evolve into a mature musician but he stayed behind the pack in terms of technique, taste and tone. And all due to a massive ego that to this day still eats up its share of Yngwie legacy. Such a shame.

@Moreno A. Hassem stayed behind the pack?...who...he pioneered this style of neo classical,..mid to late eighties there were many many great players but even at his worst was still better than most, cannot at all agree with behind the pack...from Alcatraz to trilogy his playing and tone was stellar, great wide dramatic vibrato, deadly clean,great phrasing and many musical ideas,..the accIdent, wether or not it was to blame, was a time stamp or marker of when his playing change...if never having heard him he would probably still be very impressive, but for those who have followed from the beginning he’s now a parody...he has influenced millions and I will always enjoy his first 5-6 records, and fondly remember seeing him in 84, 85, 86 and meeting him a couple times then....it is too bad now, but whether it’s him, vai, zakk, Eric Johnson, schenker, uli, etc, none are at all what they once were, ,

@@jakelee7639 Already in the 90s there were already several players much more advanced than Malmsteen technically. He was top game in 1983, but never managed to stay at that level or evolve from that. It was always downhill.

@@yanava not sure if your familiar with his work,..’83 was Alcatraz no parolee from rock and roll,...great album, great playing and great songs,...but in late ‘84 came his first solo record rising force which kicked everyone’s ass,...incredible playing never before heard,..he was still getting better,..that record set the pinnacle for his classical shred style and scared about every guitar player...next year marching out which is fantastic with killer songs and playing, ‘86 was trilogy which could be argued better but another great album and playing..’88 was odyseey with joe Lynn turner and it’s good but a bit of a slide,..songs not quite as good or interesting and his playing rushed and even more predictable than usual.....to each his own as far as opinions...but if you like ‘83 yngwie there is a bootleg of the demos from no parole from rock n roll demos without vocal on you tube...the solos are different from the final record but just as good, a rare gem this many years later....definitely worth the search and listen

I think he still made good albums after the car crash, but something was missing, no compositions like Black Star, Far Beyond, Little Savage etc, I can't listen to his latest albums, But vintage Yngwie and I'm totally there. Around this time in '85 I bought a cassette at a record fair, just b/w photocopy marked Rising Force, I took a gamble and it payed off, it was Yngwie demos, Merlins Castle, Birth of the Sun etc, totally different player to what followed.

I have seen over 50 live Yngwie shows and recorded many early show’s 1983-1984 best solo’s tops was Chicago at metro in 1983 that night Yngwie’s guitar solo 🎸 was like bolts of lighting tossed about by Thor. This show is very lack luster actually all Milwaukee or Chicago shows from 1983-1986 were his best!!

you can hear the sound of his picking on these old recordings that Paul Gilbert once likened to a popsicle stick in bicycle spokes. After his accident in 1987 he didn't really have the same popping sound to his playing. Still better than many though.
@carloschon
@carloschon 4 ай бұрын
I believe 1986-1987 was also when he switched to delrin picks which would explain some change in sound, but the main thing is that he wasn't the same (live) after the accident, like you said. By the time Trial by Fire was released, he already sounded sloppier and didn't go for those fiery ascending lines across all strings (Trilogy intro, for example).
@mopunchstudio9289
@mopunchstudio9289 4 ай бұрын
@@carloschon yeah you can really hear it in the articulation of his picking. Like you said he was much sloppier post wreck but then his doctors told him he'd never play again so it's still pretty amazing.

hard to believe this was the standard of possibility some 30 years ago, how much downhill have we gone... it's like someone coming back from the 1700's being used to these enormous Stone Castles and Cathedrals (that we can't replicate with modern technology by the way...) and seeing how the fuck did we get used to living in Cardboard Plywood houses these days

For those of you who think YM is so original….he is playing many many classical motifs and phrases and then improvising on them. Simply look back at Mozart, Bach, Vivaldi to name a few great composers…..and listen to their ideas already played and in print….you will see YM did them justice….but original….no
