It did. It is a standard part of the Swiss system. It is a necessary part of tie-breaking. Because of the round-robin format of matches, it is possible for multiple players to end up with the same win/loss counts in matches and games. Imagine two players who are 2-1 in match victories, and have each won 6 games and lost 3 in the course of those matches. Which player is ahead? Buchholz can tell us by measuring the strength of who those 2 players played against. "Strength" here is just a fancy way of saying, as Yo eloquently stated, how many match wins a person has, and then you add up the match victories of all opponents each person played against so far, and then you get a Buchholz value.

I’m guessing Nili regretted that joke as soon as he made it… tbf when you have the lights and heat on you, you can blank and say silly things. Glad Yo moved along and nice joke of his own. I don't think that's it, but everyone would be surprised the awkward jokes we make when the camera is shining. Overall, the tournament is great :)

In Serbia we enjoy joking with stereotypes, best jokes are those. That’s something you’ll see in Daut behaviour, for example. It means that you are so good with someone and you can be sure that person won’t mind. But today, ppl are used to be so tolerant becoming “fake”. Just my opinion

It's used for tiebreakers. Basically, the higher the number a player has on Buchholz, the tougher their opponents were in this tournament (as it's calculated from their previous opponents wins). So if two people end with the exact same results, the tie would be decided on who had to face the tougher opponents.

@@AnthonyAvonif it's being used for tie-breakers and draws are not a thing, as is the case here, then it's as easy as counting the total number of wins each player's opponents got. I think the original system is a little more complicated, but it effectively reduces to this when used only for tiebreakers on the number of wins
