Or, with a display like this, maybe you could of buried a green LED in the trooper's back and used an acrylic rod as the saber. The LED would light the rod. Maybe not a brightly. Just my 2 cents. Love watching your builds.

For the tips of those filaments, maybe you can using a green microdot LED? At the dollarstores around here (Dollarama) every Christmas they sell these strings of multi coloured microdot LEDs that run on 2AA batteries. If you had one of those, you could probably solder it to the end of the filament and maybe use hot glue or something to make it seamless and to spread out the light, if you are going to paint it. The dots with an epoxy bubble around it are approximately 2mm wide, 4mm long and 2mm thick, excluding the wire. They are pretty bright too.

Well about 3 years too late but for a while on Amazon the Bandai clone models were only about $15, I bought 2 with the initial intentions of displaying 1 in phase 1 and the other in phase 2, but I ended up painting one like the 501st and enjoyed doing it. But then the price went back up to $40 right after, but has dropped to around $27 and I bought 4 more, 2 to paint in phase 2 and 2 to paint phase 1, I’m going to do 2 of the ranks from attack of the clones (I don’t know which yet) and I’m doing the coruscant guard shock trooper and 212th attack battalion trooper for the phase 2. So if you’re still interested in these clone models they should be cheaper and easier to find now. They seem to be stocked up pretty regularly from the seller.

At 4:50 it says you can't figure out the dim spot at the end of the blade...instead of a filliment try a green fiber optic rod...they make them in all different colors and you could backlight it from inside with a white led and it would carry the light all the way to the end...you could possibly even sand it a bit to get rid of the translucent look

@Fluffysbeans3 жыл бұрын
My suggestion for the lightsaber would be to try using clear acrylic rods (you can find them through various hobby supplies/amazon) over a single LED embedded wherever you need it. The end of the rod can either be left unchanged, or you could sand and round it, depends on how you want it to look with the light off. An airbrushed translucent paint sprayed over it will let you get the color you want. It might not glow quite as strong as the filament you used, but the entire thing will be lit instead of having a little dead zone at the tip, and it doesn't need a wire running behind it, so your circuitry can be more discreet.

A couple of ideas for the lightsaber end problem: 1. Those filaments are actually chains of tiny series LEDs (see US patent US10240724B2). In *theory* you could carefully nick the insulation (behind the wire) and double them over very carefully, possibly just resoldering any eventual internal wire breaks. Would potentially require a soldering oven rather than a soldering iron for the required precision. 2. The pragmatic approach : Solder a micro LED onto the end and then wrap it in a cocktail straw to mask the joint. 3. In addition to #2, you could also theoretically trim back a bit of the insulation on the end of the filament so there's less dark length.
