I think the comment about Rick's first successful procedure was an ad lib by Grant or else it was a present by the writers to the fans. I can think of at least two successful procedures by Rick : operating on Zack when he was hit by a car and on Harley when she was shot. But amongst the fans he is known as Dr. Death!

Yes, on 60 Minutes Michael O'Leary (Ex-Rick) acknowledged how he went from Emptying Bedpans to doing Surgery. Here's an eerie Co-Incidence. Sarah is named after her Maternal Grandmother that she never knew and on the UK Soap Opera there's a Character named Sarah Sugden named after her Paternal Grandmother that she never knew.
