Nice instructional video. I got the straight hand crow position (for few secs), but my hams are so stiff, I can't get anywhere close to the position where I can do it without my knees touching my arms. I tried using board like you did, but I can't get my bottom up while legs straight. Any suggestions for people with stiff hams. (FYI, i saw other video with your mom, where you showed handstand using wall. I got that down). Thank you for posting great videos.
@YOGAthletica8 жыл бұрын
+Jay W thanks for writing! tight hams...my first recommendation is to stretch them out. a lot. ;) then, maybe try this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqqZnIWMa8Sjma8 . it's pressing from crow to handstand...a more challenging skill, but similar actions and does not rely on open hamstrings. meantime, on this one, your legs don't have to be all the way straight (though it certainly helps). more important is to get your hips as high as possible. so, whether that means using higher blocks or engaging your core more strongly, this pose is still possible...just harder. :)

Hi Shana, it's brad, your fan from Manila. This video and specialty the "handstand pike" video are awesome. My challenge is that my hamstrings are so tight, my legs are too folded that it gets in the way of everything! I know it's vague by describing it but my question is, have any tips on doing this (and the pike) even with tight hamstrings? -brad
@YOGAthletica9 жыл бұрын
+Brad Feliciano thanks for writing! is there a way for you to shoot a quick video so i can see what is happening? on this video, is it even hard if you start on a block? so your legs are already bent before lifting off? maybe even two blocks? on the handstand pike, focus on squeezing your legs together, embedding the femurs into the hip joints, and engagin both your hamstrings and quadriceps simultaneously. even better...stretch. those. hamstrings!!! :D

Hi Shana, I rly appreciate that you share this knowledge : ) I have been practicing handstand for a while (actually mostly kick-ups). Sometimes I find this balance spot, sometimes not. I don't but I think the better approach is to just master other steps before literally jumping into handstands. Do you think it would be better to learn those tucked upped handstands you showed in this video? ... and do you think this version is easier than straddle presses?
@YOGAthletica9 жыл бұрын
+Skinner Adams hi! personally, i do think this is easier than a straddle press...but that's just my personal opinion. have you done my straddle press video yet? :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHfJdGqQr5ZqfbM overall, learning to just find a good, solid and consistent handstand balance will always be the #1 key. i have these two videos to help with that...once you are 100% comfortable in handstand, all the other handstand stuff starts to come...with patience and practice. to handstand consistently in the middle of the room: kzbin.info/www/bejne/goGopoGiebZlm68 to build core strength specifically to master handstands: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWitaIiYeqepjtk hope that helps!

+shana meyerson Yeah thanks, recently I figured that the 'Handstand-Journey' is kinda more complex meaning that it doesn' t only come down to practice one thing over and over again but to different handstand-exercises that should be mastered or rather practiced to a certain level. All of this contributes to all handstand moves following since each exercise improves hand balancing and body awareness more and more, thanks for those drills, I'll check them out : D

@YOGAthletica8 жыл бұрын
hi brandie, when you are stuck on anything, practice is always key. and patience. and...if something is not working, you need to try it a different way. i suggest videotaping yourself doing the hop and then comparing where your shoulders and hips are in space compared to mine. that is the easiest way to nail down where things aren't working. it may be core. it may be your overall approach and body positioning. it could be arms or hips or shoulders...or just about anything in between... if you want to post a video, i would be happy to look at it and give you pointers. :) shana
