Most challenging pose - has been my Zen Master for years - and you *just* gave me my largest epiphany; Drop my head! Drop my head? WHAT? I was always turning around, looking at my foot, seeing it miles away and wondering what was my problem. How delightfully air-headed of me! Thank you Shana Meyerson. I am a new subscriber but have been watching your videos and learning so much. It's funny how we can miss something so simple sometimes.

Thanks for the video, good explanation about various leg positioning. I used to do this pose regularly, but after rotator cuff injury about 1.5 years ago, I'm still not there, scary to do the shoulder rotation. Using the loop is great but slow progress. Also my arms are rather short, which doesn't help even with the mermaid. I'm practising mermaid with a loop which allows me to square my hips - for me it's a really important habit to establish before perfecting the pigeon.
@YOGAthletica2 жыл бұрын
it sounds like you have a really good sense of what does and doesn't work for your body. that is so important. not every pose was made for every body...but there is always something in each pose that we can try! careful with that shoulder! safety first! ❤️❤️❤️

@@YOGAthletica Question for you as I've been doing this with my infinity strap following your lessons. I watched the whole thing again, I promise but still not sure: So do I pull the foot to my shoulders and therefore angle the foot to way less than 90 degrees or pull the shoulders to my leg and keep straightening (90 degrees) angle of the leg??? Does it make sense? Thanks!!!
@YOGAthletica6 жыл бұрын
It’s really a combination of both, as feels appropriate. If you bring your foot toward your head, it’s easier to complete the pose. But if you lean back into it more, you get a bigger backbend and shoulder opener. I would find the combination that feels the best on your body. ❤️
@prolificliving6 жыл бұрын
@@YOGAthletica I see. Neither is inappropriate or too far from the actual pose. OK I experiment. It's like I want exact instructions for that part of the process as I fear I can't trust myself when I go that deep ... in case I do something wrong.... but I'm staying out of the low back which is key! THANKS Shana!

Hi am i doing something wrong when the hip thats supposed to be on the floor is lifting😕 when pulling the foot towards the ceiling ?
@YOGAthletica3 жыл бұрын
It's not that you are doing something wrong. You just may have to stretch your hips a little more. It is good that you recognize that the hip is lifting! Many people either don't realize or--worse--just lean excessively to the side to get the hip down. It is a good idea to work on getting your hips square to the floor and if the hip persists in lifting, put a blanket or a block (depending how much it lifts) under it to get your hips more even. :)

@YOGAthletica6 жыл бұрын
Joan Lee well, there is a difference between sore and injured. If something feels like it is injured, I would give it a rest or back off until it feels better. But if it just feels sore or tight, you can absolutely still do it every day. :)

@YOGAthletica6 жыл бұрын
Be sure to start with the strap. Start with a large loop, as needed and make it smaller and smaller until you essentially have the full flip. :)
@YOGAthletica6 жыл бұрын
Also, grab the foot, as I explain, not your toe.
@meema986 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply.. I can turn my shoulder using strap, even smaller loops. But not able to do without strap.. I will try out again...
@YOGAthletica6 жыл бұрын
Get to the point where the loop is basically the same size as your foot and it is almost the same action as without the strap. You have to get a really strong grip on the out edge of the foot.
