Hey Yogev , Great video mang! The visual rep of the groupings within the hieroglyph are awesome :-) The analysis is pretty spot on too! This tune is def a big variation on theme, which we're big on. I personally don't really take tempo changes into account, it's more incidental, Just expanding or contracting groupings giving the feeling of tempo shifts. this tune is just 16th note based, which is why its an "easy one" :-). The time sigs are a different story :-) Thanks for taking the time man! I owe u a beer!

The more you listen to Car Bomb, the more you realize that metric modulation is the foundation of their formula. They are literally the Yang to Meshuggah's Yin.
@DuffyLONER642 жыл бұрын
I'm not big into Meshuggah... How exactly is that so?
@HoxVox2 жыл бұрын
@@DuffyLONER64 he meant Car Bombs' savage, hot and SOMEHOW* baroquely complex approach to the matter opposed to the pure, glacial and minimalist complex approach by Meshuggah *SOMEHOW because Car Bomb don't play useless notes motivated by a self indulgent ear-pleasing attitude, which was a defect by many baroque classical musicians, but all the same they sound (they are, and this video is a proof) more articulated than Meshuggah.
@HoxVox2 жыл бұрын
@@DuffyLONER64 cutting it short, it's like Meshuggah want you to understand and reflect about how music can expand wider through polyrhythm, feeding (AWESOME) sketches of that, while Car Bomb want you to experience it by painting the best faithful picture of it they can. Meshuggah = Theory / Car Bomb = Praxis
@greedo692 жыл бұрын
@@HoxVox what the fuck are you talking about
@jordannelson79112 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Meshuggah is rigidly structured. They never, ever, deviate from 4/4. Car Bomb is open-ended. They swing between tempos and time signatures. But one thing they have in common with Meshuggah is a good sense of how to develop small ideas into a cohesive whole.

They also change note rates a lot, and not just to the "normal" tuplets like 5s and 7s. Metal Music Theory has some really amazing transcription videos that I'd recommend everyone check out, really helps put into perspective just how insane some of Car Bomb's riffs are. I've never heard a band bend time quite as wildly as they do.

Love your vids, bro!! As a drummer, Car Bomb is no doubt one of my fav bands. Listening for the first time you have no idea wtf is going on.. but once you analyze it and understand it, you really can appreciate the genius behind that „musical chaos“

Took me a while to get to this video just because analyzing this takes forever, and yes, they are epic !
@sepiarain3 жыл бұрын
10:00 Yes. Yes and yes. Your analysis, both visual and verbal are absolute honey for the soul! I've never really given car bomb much time, but this video has changed that in terms of intention - I have a lot of appreciation for bands who explore these possibilities and rhythmic events, even if I can't spend as much time as I might wish I could listening to it (it's somewhat exhausting when musically you feel obliged to accept the challenge of understanding it). And that's where the comment comes full circle - glorious to see the puzzle unfurl. Just been to watch some of their live clips, the fact that their presentation is very much a tough guy hardcore band, and yet the complexity of what they do is there, this is a very satisfying case of not judging books by their covers or having a pre-conceived or judgemental bias/idea that there's not much intelligence in that scene...

I had the chance to hang out with these guys after a show a number of years ago. It was the farewell tour for Dillinger when they stopped in Atlanta ( don't remember the venue ) and it was one of the best experiences I've ever had speaking to a touring band. They are down to earth and extremely talented. I asked about the title of their second album and was told that it was a simple saw wave. I always just called it W's. I got this album signed and totally missed the Dillinger set because my friends and I were talking to these dudes. This is by far my favorite modern metal group, and cant wait to hear their next album!
