I may be 4 years late, but this is truly informative and educational and helped me better understand what was going on in this astonishing piece. Many thanks! (PS. I thought it was a triplet!). No wonder it took Tomas 6 months to learn this! How complex it all is!

Have never seen a good explanation of the 5/4 over 4/4 polyrhythm at the beginning of "The Grudge". I think you'd be the perfect person to tackle that. 😊

Such meticulous and inspired work you do, thank you!!! This was the most surprising and entertaining course. I’m used to your deconstructions of metal song beats but this genre and your body double playing the tabla are wild!

Thanks Yogev for all the wonderful work you have done. As a guitarist, your videos have made me realize the world of rhythm can be just as complex, diverse, and fascinating as the melodic/harmonic world.

NGL was kinda frustrated w this video... 1:20… you never play the full section, you keep breaking it up to count, and then when you do play the 7+3 together you count over it. We never get to hear the relationship of the 7 to the 3, which is key since the 3 is all downbeats. Let us soak in the full cycle before you superimpose on top on it. (as for the 5/4, I hear it as 14/8-14/8-12/8 with a duplet-triplet dynamic). 2:35… I hear this as 8/8+7/8, with the highest note being the downbeat. At 3:30 you count it in double-time, uncomfortable tempo, no numbers or rhythms to be seen on screen. 4:45… Describing metric modulation verbally is a wild choice considering this is THE absolute #1 channel for visual metaphors of rhythm. I understand it already but could not follow the explanation (yeah I'm a visual learner). In the end I'm unconvinced this is a 5/4... I'm hearing it at half the tempo you describe, in a slinkier groove that suits the awesome music, and 40 can be subdivided like a million ways, so I prefer to choose a time sig that describes the music not just counts it. I dunno, love this channel, this one kinda lost me, felt like a rough draft.

The angel number 357 is about personal growth and development, seen in the ABC groups. The monster group of CCBAB adds up to 27 and that angel number means that you may be facing a period of spiritual growth and that by bringing more balance into your life, you can find your life path. Whether you believe in them or not, it is a testimony to how much meaning can be put into the seemingly meaningless aspects of your creation. Note* I did a little copy and pasting

Yogev, as you know I love your videos (and your music). But I'm a little mystified why you decided to analyse a piece using Carnatic rythmic structures by using western concepts instead of looking at it from the perspective of Carnatic talas. Of course, you can do that, but it's not likely that the musicians themselves are approaching it from a "time signature + tempor" perspective ....

It is impossible for me to hear the intro as anything other than 7-7-6, with a 4-tuple over the 6 count. Beat is at 192. Sorry man, 5/4 is a big ask.

The thing is, these are Indian classical rhythms and the time signature is a Western concept. So this whole exercise is quite a stretch.

The listener dictates nothing, and thats the beautiful part about it. If the tempo was meant to be unchanged, which I would argue was the intent, the listener just gets to enjoy the ride they get put on!

I wanted to take a moment to express my deep appreciation for your exceptional teaching. Your ability to break down such a highly complex and dynamically changing rhythmic structure was truly remarkable. Although I found myself grappling to understand even the first level of the intricacies you presented, I was profoundly impressed by your mastery and depth of understanding across multiple layers of complexity. Your passion and dedication to the subject were evident, and it inspired me to continue exploring and learning, even when the material feels challenging. Thank you for making such an effort to share your knowledge and for making complex concepts more accessible to learners like me. Your work is not only enlightening but also incredibly motivating. -ChatGPT
