the uk is definitly not the safest have you ever tried to cycle in the uk its a hell, as a dutch person having lived in england for work going cycling to work everyday in england is still one of the most dangerous things i ever did. the roads are horribly inconsistently paved and cyclists are send from the left to the right side of the road constantly thus having the cross through all the traffic.

So lewis talks about the car safety hedgehog thing. In the netherlands we had an armadillo at some point, which if you translate it literally from our language means seatbeltanimal. Does he mean the same thing? Like a little plushy you got if you get checked and you're wearing your seatbelt? Because damn that marketing does not translate well xD.

On the topic of alien life, the is a point to be made that even if other life can exist in the universe, it doesnt mean that it will exist at the same time as us, humans have been around for a fraction of the time life has existed on earth, which is a fraction of the age of the universe itself, so they may have died out long before we can to be, IIRC there is a Kurzgesagt video on it, Great podcast as always lads

I almost feel you could have a better Venice experience without the crowds or the stinky polluted water and...without the Earth, by watching the anime franchise "Aria" (Aria the Animation, Aria the Natural, Aria the Origination) which is about a recreation of Venice on a terraformed Mars. Not only is it a heartwarming story of young girls training to be gondoliers and learning about life, but the creators of the show researched in Venice and treated the city in their anime with loving detail and genuine affection. Alternately, just watch a Rick Steves tour video about Venice, his stuff is superb.

The fine tuning for life is a lot less fine tuned than you think. Firstly, life appears in far more places than we thought it could ever appear on earth. That means the limits for life on earth is larger. Second, it only proposes the forms of life we know. Which is from a sample size of one. Third, the actual limits themselves keep turning out to be larger than we thought at first. The problem for aliens here is that speed of light limit. It limits how many planets could have had time to arrive here since, say, the first radio broadcast, the first time any aline would have even noticed this planet.

as a game developer i'm 100% sure we could create the entire universe given enough time and more so technical capability processing power, memory etc... though with knowing that we could technically make a simulation of our own universe so we would know what happens in the future since it couldn't be changed since the starting variables are what set everything in motion.

@@kevinohiggins3868 what I've learned is that most people don't like nuance. It's easier for the human mind to think there's a single problem and solution, but in reality the contemporary world is complicated beyond human comprehension. Lots of factors effect worldwide outcomes, but most people choose a single target, presumably to perpetuate their chosen ideology.

life happened here on Earth, I think I rebell against the idea that we are the only time it EVER happened. That's too religious/special to me, that we are unique. Now I think I'm also happy not to meet alien cultures because they'd (IMO) be as likely to destroy the Earth Galactus-style for resources not even noticing or caring we were here, or eat or enslave us, or just be a wildly destructive force deliberately or accidentally. I feel even less likely that we are the only sentient planet is that if we met others, that they'd be happy to see us and sit down and work out how to make things better. We can't even do that amongst ourselves.
