They do realise that bugs actually have a higher tolerance to radiation because they are both smaller (making it harder for radiation to actually hit them), and have simpler anatomies (which means a mutation is less likely to kill them).... this means that a higher dosage would be required than humans can tolerate to kill insects, cause the probability of them dying is much less.
