Rubber and air are both insilators, but like all insulators, if you give it enough power, it still becomes a conductor. Cars protect you from lighting because they act as a Faraday cage, as in they give a path for the lightning that isn't through you. In the case of cars the lightning goes from cloud, through air to top of car, then from bottom of car through air to ground. In the case of a person wearing shoes with rubber soles. The lightning goes from the cloud, to somewhere near the top of your body and then from somewhere near the bottom of your body through the air to the ground.

Oddly enough, wearing a full suit of metal armor would protect you from a lightning strike, Since the suit is way more conductive than you are it wouldn't pass through your body. You'd still get burnt and deafened though

The sheer voltage of a lightning strike is probably enough for the lightning to still pass through the body of someone wearing a suit of armor, at least to some degree. Not to mention that the armor might be molten after taking a lightning strike, lol

Voltage follows the path of least resistance, electrical workers literally wear chainmail, You'd be having a bad day, anyone struck directly by lightning is, but you'd be more protected than you'd think, the only thing it won't (mostly) protect you against is the sound.

You very much can have a car get struck by lightning I've seen the aftermath personally. Left a dark streak from hood to trunk and melted some of the electronics. Everyone inside was completely unharmed.

Just in case this isn't common knowledge: Cars are safe from lightning because they are a Faraday cage (?), essentially a cage of metal that conducts electricity away from what's inside. The rubber tires has nothing to do with it. Rubber shoes would not save you in a thunderstorm. Edit: Ironically metal armour would probably save you, idk

The ship itself is based off of the ship from Touhou 12 UFO (undefined fantastic object) , that's why the green ufo is there, don't know if the layout is based off anything specific though.
