After re-reading the details of the bank robbery that Stockholm Syndrome came from, I was able to decipher Rythian's ramblings, and there is something to what he was trying to say. The criminologist/psychologist who coined the term had been involved in the hostage negotiation, and the hostages really did not like him because they felt he had not done his job very well and nearly got them killed (acting aggressive toward the robbers, pointing guns at the robbers while they had their guns on the hostages, etc). He just didn't explain it very well in the video, to the point where I was like "does he even know the story of where it came from, is this some weird reddit post he saw?". But to be fair he was explaining it while also under duress from this map, so I can't blame him.
@Eeraschyyr2 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the clarification. Thanks!
@jt16872 жыл бұрын
The way he described it made it sound like the psychologist was angry that one of the (specifically) female victims preferred the robber(s) to him. He definitely got that from an unsourced Reddit post lol. However, the syndrome itself isn't "BULLSHIT" as Rythian vehemently claimed. There are many other examples, and it is commonly observed in cases of abuse.
@thewingedporpoise2 жыл бұрын
@@jt1687 that's just abuse... Stockholm Syndrome is dumb because there's no actual stuff proving that it's real but abuse just works like that, and saying that it's "Stockholm Syndrome" is kind of gross, icky? Abuse often works out like that because abuse requires contact and connection. And there is a lot of guilt tripping stuff and all sorts of abusive behavior that reinforce the position of the abuser in the victim's life.

@@Lysvsyl What are you talking about? The man coining the term was Nils Bejerot, who assisted the police during the hostage situation and made a lot of terrible decisions at the time.

Yeah, the big thing is that in the situation that Stockholm Syndrome came from the police (and the psychologist) were acting with complete disregard for the hostages while the robbers were telling the hostages they didn't want to kill them. It's pretty reasonable that the hostages (and that woman in particular) trusted the robbers more than the cops, they weren't the one's pushing to get them killed.

I think the problem is that 1. Ped's just that good at games and therefore different from the yogscast standard, usually when Lewis or Ben trolls their own incompetence or lack of thinking gets them (lewis honestly should have had sticky at ready going up the ramp at the end and should've blown up Zylus knowing he'd do the same) 2. Usually when Lewis trolls he does it to quote "help people catch up" so quite often he stops once enough people have gathered up and are all mad enough to drag him into the crab bucket. Ped's problem is that at some point he gets bored of trolling and starts trying to actually win.

It doesn't mean that he's not irritating, self-centered, and a griefing piece of shit that ruins the fucking content he's in. And let's be clear here. I don't have a problem with him trolling. The problem is that he doesn't troll. Trolling is funny and ends when the victim has had enough. Ped's bullshit is never funny, and he doesn't know when to stop. So he sits there and puts the entire video on hold because he's a pathetic manbaby who can't be funny, until someone else like Ben, Zylus, or Rythian puts him back in his place, which isn't even cathartic because he WHINES the entire time that he's not allowed to keep griefing. Since Zylus was speaking live, here's a better explaination of stockholm syndrome's origins: A robbery turned into a hostage situation. The robbers chose one lady to speak to the police for them, as opposed to directly speaking to them themselves. Over the corse of the events, the woman grew increasingly frustrated with the negotiators, who seemed like they wanted an excuse to go in and end this violently more than they cared about keeping the hostages safe, while the robbers definitely didn't want people to die. So she was really openly peeved about that, and they made "Stockholm Syndrome" up to kinda explain that actually she wasn't in her right mind
