I'd tried Mbah Satinem's lupis. After eating lupis, I drank a cup of black coffee (no sugar). It was a perfect combination breakfast in the morning.

Lupis is glutinous rice, which is mixed with brown sugar (palm sugar) then added with grated coconut. Indonesian people, especially Javanese, like sweet food and it is healthy when prepared traditionally with natural ingredients. and 1 more lupis will not make you fat 😊

Fun Fact : Parents in Central Java, Jogjakarta, and Surakarta, as well as surrounding areas, had a tradition of naming their daughters Nem(exmp Sutinem, Yem (Sutiyem), and Yah (Sutiyah) etc...when they were born. In the present day, parents rarely use those names.

I love LUPIS too since I was born.. simple but rich and memorable, sticky rice wrapped in fresh banana leaves sprinkled with fresh shredded coconut flesh with fresh made sauce of fresh palm brown sugar

I hope the tour guide told you about the meaning of the engravings. They are basically scenes of stories separated in panels so the whole walls of Borobudur is literally like a giant comic books. The stories depicted there are taken from Buddhist traditions and teachings. They created these comic-like panels with just scene engravings with no texts/writings as a mean to teach Buddhism to the people who at that time mostly illiterate. I hope the tour guide showed you some of the panels and explained the meanings/the stories depicted there.

Few years before they manage the temple properly, it was very chaotic. The peddlers will grab your hands and force to buy their souvenirs, even after you get to your car or bus. I remember visiting it when I was a kid. Then I visited again after I grew up and it changed a lot, for the better.
