MJ's resume is overwhelming. I think Lebron is great, he's a legitimate generational player. The problem is its not fair to compare Jordan to anyone, even Lebron. I'm going to leave just a little chunk of MJ's legacy here for anyone interested. Jordan on Offense 30.1ppg for his career, most in NBA history 33.4ppg career playoffs average, most in NBA history 33.6ppg in 6 Finals appearances, most in NBA history 41.0ppg in a Finals series, most in NBA history 10 Scoring titles, most in NBA history 10 seasons with 2,000+ points, NBA record Jordan with Analytics PER (Player Efficiency Rating): Highest in history for both the regular season (27.91) and the playoffs. (28.6) Win Shares per 48 (WS/48): Highest in history for both the regular season (.2505) and the playoffs (.2553) Box plus Minus: Highest in history for both the regular season (9.22) and the playoffs (11.14) VORP per Game: Highest in history for both the regular season (.1083) and the playoffs(.1382) Jordan on Defense He was the first player in history to be selected to 9 All Defensive First teams. He was the first player in history to get 200 steals and 100 blocks in a season, it has still only been done by 3 players. (Michael did it twice). He was the steals leader 3 times. He's the only guard in history, relative to his position, both in the Top 5 for blocks and Top 5 for steals. He was the defensive Player of the Year and Scoring Champion in the same year, the only player in history to accomplish this. His 131 blocks for the 1988 season is still the most blocks in a season by a guard in NBA history.

My favorite Jordan response to the debate, which he rarely will entertain, was when someone asked him who would win in a game with Jordan’s best Bulls team versus LeBron’s best team. I can tell you one other measure of greatness-- as a Canadian, I love hockey. Basketball's not my game. But during the Bulls' run of greatness, people in Vancouver and Toronto STOPPED WHAT THEY WERE DOING to watch the Bulls games live. Time off work, appointments cancelled, all that. Jordan's interest transcended even the sport of basketball-- he was a kind of god among men. I don't think Lebron can say that.
@jaykyungchung2497 Жыл бұрын
I'm with you. He was the reason the game of basketball hit worldwide. moms around the world didn't know what the hell basketball was but knew the name Michael Jordan. that's also when street basketball of 3 on 3 got popular. Animations like Slam Dunk and TV dramas of basketball made sensation. He was then once compared in a TV show to Michael Jackson on who the most valuable person is if i remember correctly. (his fame surpassed that of Jackson by then of course) He was the star of stars as even stars looked at him with awe when in person. He was a world phonemenon. He changed the game itself and the world towards it after. Not the same can be said to anyone else, not Lebron nor any other star in any sports. Yeah, if that can't be a true measurement of Greatness, then what else can be?

The one thing that people have a hard time articulating about his playing days is 1) he literally brought it every single night and as expectations grew over the years he would still deliver 2) the buzz around every game was almost Superbowl like 3) he would take over close games offensively and defensively but win more often than not 4) his rise to stardom was very organic... he would just have such amazing plays game after game to which average people that didn't even care about basketball or sports for that matter became fans! How many kids started playing basketball because of Jordan? How many of some of the best players out there today strived to be like Mike as kids? 😂 He helped shape the future of basketball and the entire industry of sports. We can’t always just look at statistics bc that would be like saying Bob Marley really wasn’t that good of a musician just bc of numbers. But his impact and influence on music and peoples lives was extraordinary. There is absolutely no comparison. Jordan is a legend and THE GOAT.

I think that you said an extremely important thing. LeBron defined his generation. Imagine him in Jordan's generation, trying his flopping with The Bad Boys, the Knicks and the Pacers all beating him into submission, not to mention the Magic and a young O'Neill. The refs would probably have laughed at him while he was on the ground. Moreover, there would have been no leaving a team, getting your friends to form a super team in another city or another city, etc. At least, he would have been part of a very good Cleveland team. He would not have to play under a Jordan Rules, but rather, a Hack-a-Shak rule since he is a poor free throw shooter. Can anyone remember a star, during the Jordan era, who would save their energy on defense to be more effective on offense? Finally, I could see Dennis Rodman being able to shut him down since Rodman was able to shut down more athletic players and more physical players than LeBron.

What doesn't get mentioned is he ended that series hitting more 3's than the entire Blazers team. Try to defend someone like Kyrie or Steph and without touching you they can send you to hospital with broken ankles. That was the only way to actually learn some new moves, i was living basketball back then. Now kids can fire up YT watch game highlights in 6 minutes then watch breakdown on how to learn certain move from youtuber and in 15 mins they know everything they need to know. Lol! I get it MJ is the Goat and I am a Bron fan but longevity is another story because that’s how players take care of their bodies. Don’t forget that top 2 all time scorers are from 70’s-80s and 80’s-90s with 19 and 20 seasons played (Abdul-Jabar and Malone), Robert Parish had 1611 games played all time while AC Green had 1,100 games played consecutive. What does that mean? And also lots of players in todays generation played less than 13 NBA seasons. Let us just appreciate players who have crazy longevity in the NBA. Kobe played 20 seasons despite his injuries, does that mean he wasn’t beat down because he has 20 seasons? And you are saying if those old players play today they would have 20 seasons? Lol, I know they are tough but they wouldn’t even catch players today because of how fast and athletic they are.

It’s nauseating watching how players just step aside or back these days when any player is even looking towards the basket in the paint… And there are people defending this weak narrative about “they don’t want to be on the next poster getting dunked on”. Another thing too is that Jordan played in an era without zone defense. Zone defense wasn't allowed in the league until 2003. Imagine a team running zone on MJ lmao. To be fair certain types of double teams weren't allowed in MJ's era either. If you double teamed a player you weren't allowed to rotate back to your original man.
