This video was made strictly synchronized (0.07s) with the music. For better watching experience, please consider watching it on a computer browser, or on a mobile device with enough video playback performance (KZbin seems to prefer iOS..). Lowering the video quality to 480p will also help with video/audio syncing.

There once was a tiger-striped cat. This cat died a million deaths, revived & lived a million lives, and he was owned by various people who he really didn't care for. The cat wasn't afraid to die. Then one day the cat became a stray cat which meant he was free. He met a white female cat & the two of them spent their days together happily. Well, years passed & the white cat grew weak & died of old age. The tiger-striped cat cried a million times, & then he died too. Except this time, he didn't come back to life...

When I finished that last episode, for a time, I just sat there and stared at the blank screen. I thought for a long while about my life at that moment. About the dream that I was living in, about how for some reason everything Spike did and said and thought seemed more real than what I’d already lived. The world has a habit of being dishonest about the truth and making you think that life is just what you see in the surface, but this show was different. And I wondered when this show ended why Spike had to die. He didn’t deserve it yet was just as deserving as anyone else. But when I heard the word ‘free’ come from my television’s speakers I understood. I understood that this is what Spike wanted all this time, this is the hidden truth behind life-freedom. Billions of times the word has been used and for millennia the world has fought for it, yet for some reason, even after all this time, you don’t really understand wanting to be free until you witness a brutal battle for it. I love Cowboy Bebop.

I think the beauty of the ending comes from the ambiguity. Even if he did survive, at least part of himself died day. However, I would say the subtle hints and metaphors throughout the series prove that he did indeed pass away. The old man constantly referring to the dying of stars as the death of a warrior is brought full circle at the end when a star winks out. A true warrior, Spike fought till the very end in this dream of his. Just as the series says, “you’ll always carry this weight.” Everyone has their own weight to carry in their own way. Live a full life like Spike did and touch the lives of amazing people like Faye, Jet, Ed, Ein, and countless others. After all, life is but a dream. See you next time, space cowboy.
@dumenek41022 жыл бұрын
Bebop is true Jazz; many jazz pieces end unresolved, and like the "Whiplash" film which is also grounded on Jazz, end ambiguously...as if what follows doesn't really matter for the viewers/listeners... As for Spike, it doesn't really matter if he survived the face-off, but one thing was for sure that night: whether predicted by Laughing Bull or not, he was prepared to die that night, notwithstanding his sometimes inhuman tolerance to previous deadly engagements. Would he have come back to Jet and Faye? That I'm not sure of. We're always gonna carry that weight.

Once, there was a cat who lived for a million years. He died a million times. He lived a million times. He was truly a splendid tabby-cat. A million people loved him, and a million people cried when he died. But never once did the cat cry. Once, the cat belonged to a King. The cat really hated the King. The King was good at war, so the King always went to war. He always put the cat into a splendid cage and took him along. One day, a stray arrow hit the cat and he died. Right in the middle of battle, the King held the cat and cried. The King quit the war and went home to his castle. He buried the cat in the castle's garden. Once, the cat belonged to a seaman. The cat really hated the sea. The seaman took the cat across all the world's seas, and all the world's bays. One day, the cat fell out of the boat. The cat could not swim. The seaman quickly caught the cat in a net and pulled him back onto the boat. But the cat was soaked through. He got sick and died. The seaman hugged the cat, who now looked like a wet rag, and cried loudly. He buried the cat beneath a tree in the park of a faraway bayside town. Once, the cat was a circus magician's cat. The cat really hated the circus. Every day, the magician would put the cat into a little box, and then saw the box right in half. He would pull the balled-up cat out of the box, and the crowd would clap and cheer. One day, the magician made a mistake, and really did saw the cat right in half. The magician held the two pieces of the cat, one dangling from each hand, and cried loudly. No one clapped or cheered. He buried the cat beneath the circus's biggest tent. Once, the cat was a thief's cat. The cat really, really hated thievery. The thief would always take the cat into towns at night, quietly sneaking like a cat down the dark alleys. The thief would only break into houses that had dogs. While the dog barked at the cat, he would go break into the safe. One day, the cat was bitten by a dog, and died. The thief hugged the cat and a stolen diamond, walking down the alleys and crying loudly. He went home and buried the cat in his small yard. Once, the cat was a lonely old widow's cat. The cat really, really hated the lonely old widow. Every day, the widow would hold the cat in her lap and stare out a little first-floor window. The cat would sit in the widow's lap all day, and nap. In due time, the cat grew old, and died. The decrepit old widow held the decrepit old cat, and cried all day. She buried the cat underneath the a tree in her garden. Once, the cat was a little girl's cat. The cat really, really hated children. The girl would make the cat ride piggy-back, or sleep holding him too tight. When the girl cried, she would wipe her tears off on the cat's back. One day, the girl made the cat ride piggy-back by tying a string around his neck. The cat died. The girl hugged the wobbly-necked cat, and cried all day. She buried the cat underneath a tree in her garden. The cat didn't really mind dying. Once, the cat was nobody's cat. He was a wild cat. For the first time the cat was his own cat. The cat really, really liked himself. For you know, he was a truly splendid tabby cat, So of course he made a truly splendid wild cat. Every girl cat wanted to be the cat's wife. Some brought him big fish as presents. Some brought him the best mice as presents. Some brought him presents from unusual journeys. Some said he was greater than the greatest of tigers. The cat said: "I've died a million times. After so long a time, this is amusing!" The cat liked himself better than anyone else. There was only one cat who never looked his way. She was a beautiful white cat. The cat would go up to her and say: "I've died a million times!" "Oh." is all the white cat would say. The cat was a little angry, for you know he liked himself better than anyone else. The next day and the next, the cat would go up to the white cat and say: "You'll probably only live once, you know." "Oh." is all the white cat would say. One day, the cat stood in front of the white cat and turned three summersaults in a row. He said: "Once, I was a circus cat, you know." "Oh." is all the white cat would say. "You know, I've died a…" the cat started to say, then: "Do you mind if I stay with you?" he asked the white cat. "No," she said. From then on, the cat was always with the white cat. The white cat had many, many cute little kittens. The cat no longer said "You know, I've …" The cat came to like the white cat and all her little kittens more than he liked himself. In due time, all the little kittens grew up, and went their separate ways. "They all became splendid wild cats, didn't they." the cat said with satisfaction. "Yes." the white cat said, purring softly. The white cat grown a little old. The cat purred even more softly. He wanted to live together always with the white cat. One day, the white cat laid beside the cat, and quietly stopped moving. The cat cried for the first time ever, all day and all night. All day and all night, he cried a million million tears. Day and night, day and night the cat cried, until one day, when the sun was high and bright, he stopped. Lying beside the white cat, he quietly stopped moving. The cat was never, ever born again. The end.

My both my grandmothers passed away last year at the end of 2020. When my grandma on my moms side died, my mother took it hard. Just a few months ago before I moved out of state I showed my mom this song. She absolutely cried her eyes out and she never felt so relieved. Like a giant weight lifted from her chest. My grandmother was gravely ill and suffering tremendously long before covid took her life. This song reassured to my mother that grandma no longer has to be a prisoner in her failing body and health anymore. She’s free now more than ever, all the pain and suffering she went through is washed away and now she has ascended to a higher realm of existence side by side with her creator. My mom has added this song to her personal list of most favorite songs ever. It really helped her heal and move on. Thank you Yoko Kanno for making this absolute masterpiece.

Better translated, it's probably closer to "Jesus is the Messiah, so that you are healed". It really depends on which form of messio they're using, and how you want to phrase the present perfect. I just took a stab at it being a proper English sentence. You could probably fudge the tenses a bit and arrive at "Jesus is the Messiah, so that you could be healed".

Carry That Weight is a song on Abbey Road, the final album The Beatles recorded together as a full band. In fact, the song is the final song that all band members were a part of during recording; later edits and overdubs on other songs only involved some of the band members but not all together at once in the studio. It’s been perceived as an acknowledgment by the band that wherever their future solo careers might take them (for by the end of album recording there was a general sense among the band that they would break up for good), they would never really be able to surpass the success or get out of the shadow of the Beatles. They were going to “carry that weight”, in a sense, of the world reshaping influence and memory of the Beatles into the future. Just like how all of us are carrying the weight of the memory Spike’s life.

Rest in peace Keiko. See you Space Cowgirl, someday, somewhere..

The ending of Cowboy bebop is so tragically beautiful because Spike is free of all of his pain at the end, when he dies. All of the painful parts of his past are something he no longer hurts over. Spike is fictional, but so many people do in fact carry the burden of a painful past around. Death may seem like the end, but it’s also the end of pain.

this song does what very few songs do "no black and white in the blue" it takes a strong person to admit that, this is not a judgement, this is a statement and its about life, its one of the best things youll learn in your lifes.

This song is beautiful even without context. However, with context, the emotion you feel is indescribable.

This is such a beautiful song, and it made cry twice. Younger as a kid I wasn’t really an anime fan until I watched Akira when I was 18 and I haven’t gotten that far in older anime, but this song and Akira’s illusions soundtrack has this very emotional, sympathetic and touching feeling whenever I hear both songs. Truly beautiful anime’s with great philosophical connections to us as human beings, with amazing soundtracks.

I have an amazing story if anyone's interested. One day I was driving home and I felt the presence of the Lord, come down to me from above. It was as real as anything and I felt so comfortable with Him. I knew if I asked Him to play a song on the radio, He would. So I said "Ok Lord, play Come as you are..." I didn't know what station it was on or anything, but I turned the radio on and the song started playing right on the spot, perfectly... I started getting flooded with chills inside, trembling, and crying tears of joy. When I got home, He stayed with me for 10 minutes till I got out of the car. I've been getting amazing prayers answered for around 6 years since, because that experience made me stop doubting when I pray, and I follow Biblical instructions, best I can.

El coro en Latín, literalmente dice: "Iesus, messaia unt, dubie di cantus..." Que aproximadamente significa: Jesús, el Mesías, nos unge, Con su canto, las dudas se disipan... Translate: Jesus, the Messiah, anoints us, With their singing, the doubts dissipate ...

The shaman said that everyone had their own star in the sky. The camera in the outro showed the sky full of stars and there was one star that was fading out. Meaning the star (Spike) died.

When I was young, I used to think song was really neat and had a real power and truth buried inside of it. It's been about 20 years now, and every time I hear this song I feel like curling up in the fetal position and the tears start streaming uncontrollably down my face. I have no idea what the fuck happened to me, except to say "everything". I just don't know what to do with it all, but for some reason this song puts words to pieces of it. Important pieces, funny pieces, faded pieces. I'm not sure if this is an admission that nobody gets to know what it all means, or if that central theme in the lyrics is an attempt to let go of the drive to try and fit these pieces of disjointed memory and feeling into linear, understandable categories where it all makes sense. It may also be the realization that I've grown so old and so tired that I've truly outlived my usefulness. If it is a joke Mr. Spock, then it's a damned cruel one.

Shame we will never know what happens to Spike in the end, officially, his fate is unknown and it's up to each viewer to decide if he lives or not. Maybe he dies for real, or maybe we were lead to believe he died, but survived and was "reborn" as a new person, he let go of his past after facing it and moved on. There are no right and wrong theories, nobody is right or wrong in this case when it comes to questioning his fate. He could be both. It's pointless to argue over it. I personally am fine with both. I'd be ok with him surviving or dying there. It doesn't ruin the anime for me. I really enjoyed it while it lasted. I didn't look much into it, but I read somewhere that there were suppose to be more seasons but show got cancelled due to drug problems in Japan at the time. Correct me if I am wrong.
