Question regarding the graph. I understand the bottom of the graph represents the footages. What does the left side represent?

@KevinPeres Sir, we are currently using FTB-2 Pro. Can we know the difference MAX-715D and FTB-2 Pro

Why do you need 4 points? Wouldn't just the 2 uppercase points be enough? I don't understand the purpose of the lowercase points.
@KevinPeres3 ай бұрын
@@rubenalgotsson807 to measure specific locations you need the outer markers to perform 4 point LSA. To simply it we measure loss using backscatter and there can be noise generated near the event. To help smooth out or reduce this noise we use the outer markers out as far as possible without crossing another event. This ensures that we reduce the impact of noise generated near the event we are measuring. I hope this makes sense.

Hi Kevin, great video! So, this method is just to confirm if both reflective/non reflective event is a macro bend or a connector/splice. Am I right

Hi Kevin, Thank you for your videos.. for the 4 point marker.. does it only be set for the 1550 or both 1310 and 1550. My range is usually no longer than 1000ft. Thanks
@KevinPeres4 жыл бұрын
Yes when measuring in real time you can only send one wavelength. Start with 1550 if it passes than 1310 should be fine. It will have higher loss but that is expected. If 1550 looks bad than check 1310 if 1310 is better you have a fiber management issue. You can toggle back and forth between 1410 and 1550 but keep in mind 1310 may require a longer pulse width to accommodate extra loss.

Thank you for your feedback. Will keep that in mind.

It would be great if you can select to have only a 2 point loss. You basically can have that, but the text you read for capital A and capital B is very small unlike the large bold 4 point text. Any time I have every suggested useful thinsg for technicians, you don't listen.

Hello, thanks for the video, I have just 1 question. Could you please explain why is the 4-Point event loss BEFORE cleaning lower than AFTER cleaning? With clean connector, I would expect lower loss and also lower reflectance...
@KevinPeres4 жыл бұрын
Great question and a super simple answer. I did not take enough care to clean the connection. I used a one click and I did not really take much care. Ideally I would take my time, inspect and clean but for this training it was not important enough to add extra time to the video which resulted in not the most ideal cleaning.

How to define a good reflection index? And what happen when reflection is so low or so high? Thanks !
@KevinPeres3 жыл бұрын
If you are talking about Reflection from a connector typically see -45 to -50dB as acceptable Pass-Fail values. UPC connectors are -50 to -55dB at spec and APC -65dB or better. We start to see issues if we are worse than -40dB and if there is amplification of the signal it can be compounded.

On the OTDR? Just move it outside the trace. Is it getting in the way ?

I will take a look at the video again. Setup is a big part of understanding optimizing 4 point measurement in real time. May be I can streamline that section a little more. I catered it to techs like myself at the time who worked in very restricted circumstances that required quick analysis.
