For those who claimed "Egypt won because they got Sinai back": 1) They did not get Sinai back after Yom Kippur War, Israel was well inside their territory 2) They got back after Camp David Accords 3) Camp David Accords demilitarized Sinai Peninsula. The Multinational Force and Observers (MFO), an international peacekeeping force, was established to monitor and enforce the terms of the demilitarization. There are 1,200 troops in Sinai from 13 Western countries there to monitor by December 2022. => Sinai is de facto under International control, de jure under Egyptian control.

Yom Kippur is a special day here since not only is it a religious day of fasting, but there is a tradition here for pretty much everyone to stay disconnected and not drive or use any sort of electronic device(you can find pictures of empty main roads in Israel absolutely abandoned during Yom Kippur). You could imagine the shitfest that occured when the army started rolling into towns and picking up the men while they were fasting and didn't know that anything happened since they kept thier radios and TV's off for the day.

I think you should have emphasized more about how important it is that they attacked on Yom Kippur. Israel is basically shut down for a day in Yom Kippur, the roads are empty, much of the population don't eat or drink, or use electricity. So there was a bit of a shock throughout Israel.

Supposedly the selection of the date had to do with tides on the Suez Canal. I've read that attacking on Yom Kippur backfired: (1) Attacking on the holiest day of your opponents calendar was a PR disaster although it was also during Ramadan. (2) Most Israelis were home and full mobilisation of the IDF proceeded more quickly than it otherwise would have.

There were many wrong or not mentioned information in that video: Firstly, you did not mention the Egyptian bombing on the bunkers of the barleef line and the anti-craft rockets that Egypt had deployed in trenches to make the Israelis think they are just anti tank divisions. 2- you did not mention the US air operation to send supplies to Israel, which was know as one of the biggest air operations and was made to save Israel from defeat. 3- you did not mention why the Israelis lost many tanks. That was because of the newest generation of anti tanks the Egyptian infantry had 4- the infantry on the Sinai front did not get support from howtizers they got support mostly from tanks. 5- when Egyptian third army got surrounded then got out of it, it was because they fought back not Becuase the Soviets threatened Israel to deploy soldiers on the Egyptian soil. Here is evidence: Moshe Dyan (the Israeli defence minister) said: "... As for the Egyptian third army, they fought back when they got surrounded and invaded a big part of South Sinai, so we cannot say we surrounded or defeated them. 6- you did not mention what the Israelis and the US did during and after the war to show that Israelis were the victorious one on both fronts. Here is an example: during the war the US and Israeli news said that Egypt and Syria were given, by the USSR, the same number of tanks the NATO had and that the USSR gave complete political assistance to both countries. That is actually one of the most stupid lies that were said. Another example, after the war I mean many years afterwards, the Israelis and US always write articles claiming that just on the Sinai front 15000 Egyptian soldiers were dead and Israeli losses were just 3000 and that Egypt had more aircraft loses than Israel, althoung the Egyptian rocket anti aircrafts crushed every Israeli jet that tried to bomb the forces. 7- you did not mention when a division of Israeli tanks got behind Egyptian lines and crossed the bridges that were made on the Suez canal to invade port said, and when the *CITIZENS * of Port saed made this Israeli attack a failure by defending with RPG's

These were the missions, now let's see if Egypt accomplished them.. On the 6th of October Egypt launched operation badr and started with bombing the fortifications near the Barlev line then the troops started marching to Sinai with the cover of Artillery and with hoses the Barlev line got destroyed. After crossing the Suez canal and destroying the Barlev line, the Egyptian troops occupied about 15 kms from the canal and made the Israelis suffer heavy losses, especially Israel's airforce because of the Egyptian Air Defense wall and the Israel's tank divisions because of the advanced anti tank systems. Syria was not doing good so Egypt had to do an offensive against Israel to Relieve the Syrian forces but it failed and led to the encircling of the Egyptian third army. The Israelis then discovered a demilitarized area in Sinai between the Chinese Farm and the Great Bitter lake so they decided to go through it to seize the City of Ismalia and Port Said in order to cut the supply lines for the Egyptian second army. So, the Israelis passed successfully and entered the city of Ismalia and Port Said but they failed to take it and were Pushed back to the Egyptian mainland in the Battle of Ismalia (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Ismailia ) Now you said that the Egyptian third army got surrounded and defeated but that is wrong; they got encircled and continued fighting that they even invaded parts of eastern Sinai and this was confessed by Moshe Dyan himself when he said: *"... And as for the Egyptian third army, They continued fighting and invaded parts of eastern Sinai, thus, we cannot say we defeated or encircled them"* Plus, it is only one Egyptian battilion that got partly encircled, but do you even know how many Israeli battilions got not surrounded, but completely annihilated in the operation of Badr, battle of Ismalia and others? MANY of Them. So, Egypt made all of its desired accomplishments in this war and with all these failures from Israel, they forced to negotiate.. if they had won according to what you said, then Israel would have done like the Sixth day war; when they were demand to negotiate they refused because they are the winners and so they don't have to follow any rules; But in the war of 1973, they were in a bad situation on the Sinai front and had suffered heavy losses so they were forced to negotiate and return Sinai... If they were the winners, they would not to do that. ---------- Now, you said that Egypt got a lot of support from the Soviet Union... But Israel got EVEN MORE support from the USA and other western countries- don't you know that operation called "Operation Nickel Grass" which was the biggest strategic airlift operation since WW2 ? You said that we cannot state who is the real winners by seeing what happened in the beginning of the war, so let's see how the war ended: -The Suez canal regained to Egypt - The Israeli Barlev Line annihilated -Eastern Sinai invaded by Egypt -The Egyptian Third army partly surrounded, nearly breaking the encircle and invaded parts of eastern Sinai (this was confessed by Moshe Dyan himself and I gave you the speech in the previous comment) - The Israeli battilions in Ismalia and Port Said are completely defeated by the Egyptian second army, some of the Israeli battilions are also encircled, some are taken prisoners and some went missing. -The United Nations deployed peacekeeping forces on the Sinai front, ending the war. -As Israel was in a bad situation in the war they were forced to give Sinai back and in return Egypt made a peace treaty with them . As it told you: if the ISRAELIS won according to what you said, they would have made like the Sixth day war- when they were demanded to negotiate they refused because they are the winners so they do not have to follow any rules but in the October war the ISRAELIS suffered heavy losses and were not doing well on the Sinai front so they were forced to give the rest of Sinai. One last thing, jordan did participate in the Yom kippur war but their role was insignificant and did not impact or make a changes in the war so you could not say that after jordan left the war, it was impossible to do something.

That's what happened in the war of 1973. Egypt had West Sinai after the war before the ceasefire. The war ended with Egyptian forces maintaining control over the whole East side of the Canal (West Sinai) except for small corridor that Israeli forces could exploit due to Egypt retreating the South Suez Canal battlefront in favor of aiding Syrian army. The plan for Israel was to use this corridor and pass to the East bank of the canal seizing control of the biggest Egyptian city on the West bank of the canal to cut-off the Egyptian army in Sinai, this plan was a failure however due to Egyptian special forces (Thunderbolt Forces) holding-off Israel and heavily damaging the infiltrating Israeli brigades. At this point the United Nations ordered a ceasefire after which Egypt and Israel went through a peace treaty resulting in Israel retreating from Sinai and Egyptians getting back their land.

just a note: Golda was prime minister and not president. the president was Zalman Shazar who died a year later and replaced by Ephraim Katzir. Golda won the election of that year but left only 31 days after building her new government, and got replaced by Yitzhak Rabin. Rabin later got replaced by the right wing Menachem Begin, who made peace with Saadat and withdrew from the sinai.

For Japan I know that Melons are seriously expensive and that you have to learn ALL of the manners in Japan since (as we all know) there are weird things and different things in Japan. For Mongolia, well I don't know much except that they have two main ethnic groups: the Tuvans and the Mongolians and that the almost forgotten battle of Khalkin-Gol between the Soviets and the Japanese happened in Mongolia. It's hard to say who won. Depends on perspective. The Syrians definitely lost and they lost badly. But regarding Egypt, because of the enforced ceasefire, Egypt did end up with a partial success in Sinai, holding their position there. But there is no doubt that if the Soviets/Americans had not forced a ceasefire, Israel would have destroyed the Egyptians as their 2nd and 3rd armies were cut off with no supplies able to reach them. The very fact that the Soviets forced a ceasefire is proof that Egypt were about to lose badly.

We weren't defeated if you actually studied this war you would know that both sides found themselves in a weak position and it did in fact end at a stand still, it is true that Israel put in motion one of the best counter attacks but at the end of the day Egypt regained all territory it lost in their last war which no matter how you look at it is not defeat but a victory as they got what they hoped to gain when starting the war. The conflict between Jews and Muslims is very complicated and all the wars between Israel and Islamic countries have been fueled by more than disagreements in religion. In real life not everything is easy to label however no matter who you think won the war the fact that Egypt achieved what it set out to do means they were not defeated.

Firstly, Egypt still had an army centred in Cairo protecting it. Secondly seeing that Egypt gained all it wanted from the peace treaty after the war clearly means their postition was strong enough to sway the negotiations. They Syrians were clearly defeated. i love the drawing, and that the video is not baised to any side, well done just for your information, the Israeli army group that encircled the 3rd Egyptian army was later encircled by the Egyptian 6th army, the israeli Group was cut dry of support wish allowed the both Egyptian army corps to defeat them, a fact that you will not probably come across, i would recommend to hear the story of both sides, just to avoid comment flame wars anyway.... And y Israel denied Sadat many initiatives when he first took power to withdraw behind the passages ( not to give whole Sinai) as starting peace negotiations ? It has always been part of "Great Israel from Nile to Euphrates". Israel even built settlements and started drilling for oil. They considered it theirs already. Telling me after all that that, Israel won the 73 war and "bestowed upon us" with Sinai for the love of peace and humanity is just childish and naieve. Egypt also achieved a more important objective that is destroying Israel sense of security coming from absolute military dominion, I think this message was very clear to the Israeli society. 2- Egyptian victory was obviously not a clear cut victory, because of the third army problem , which was all to compensate for the Syrian incompetency and weakness in combat, but still the strategic objective of Sadat was a JUSTFUL PEACE anyways, not to throw the Jews in the sea like the stupid Nasser said , and by the way Sadat paid the price for that peace. And the Arabs alienated Egypt for years being a traitor. And yet a small give aways for peace. Actually the third army advanced East a little 😄and here comes fact no.3 3-USA put Soviets in their back pocket since day one, not only did they stall Soviet "real" military aid to Egypt while USA gave Israel phantoms and TOW missiles in early stage , but also in the end they maintained a situation where Egypt needs aid and supplies to the third army and YET NOT ALLOWING Egypt to pull back the behind lines forces doing nothing and not sharing in any combat, from east to west to annihilate the Israeli forces behind the third army,or to mobilize the army in Cairo from the west . brilliant!, hence years after this war Egypt leaves the Soviet camp and enters western camp, also as a consequence Israel managed to make political gains after all, and that is also why the Soviets were never a part of the peace settlements. Since many years before the war the Soviets insisted on not balancing the technology and that is why we tried to counter this by numbers We begged them for the "Quadrat" a self propelled surface to air missiles that would not allow the disaster happend on 14 October but they always denied us. Even during combat, we asked for tanks on 8 October and were actually delivered in November! After combat was over The Soviets didn't have a clear vision of what exactly to do and what strategy to take in this crisis, and paid for it.

@@GabrielBTzar We as Egyptians aren't ignoring the part when Israel slipped past our defense, but Israelis tend to ignore the existence of Abtal Sina' which literally means "Sinai's Heroes". Those guys are civilians who were trained by the military in 1967 (when Israel first took Egyptian land) and then went on with their normal lives, the purpose of this was that if Israelis attack Egypt and enter their land, the civilians would put up a fight, and they did. The Israeli brigade was ambushed by these civilian fighters, and therefore, that part didn't play a big part in the war. But it showed Israel that every Egyptian was ready and able to fight back. So with that in mind, -The Egyptian goal for the war wad to push Israel into talks for returning Sinai (ACCOMPLISHED) -They also held the Sinai for a while. -They also ENTERED the Sinai which itself was virtually impossible. -Repelled Israeli attack into Egyptian mainland embarassing the IDF -The war also resulted in Sinai's eventual return to the Republic of Egypt That's why we consider it a victory. The Golan front was a swift victory at first, but then IDF concentrated on the Syrians and the Pals. I think possibly because the Golan heights had a smaller area, and the Syrians and Palestinians were making great progress and nearing to Israel's"mainland" so they had to concentrate their attack which resulted on heavy losses for the Arabs. Which is also the reason for the Egyptian push that was known to be failure on the words of Israel. In reality, the attack was destined to fail. All the martyrs that went in there probably knew what they were getting into. It wasn't a fail attack, it was an attempt by the Egyptians to get pressure of th Golan fighters. You forgot to mention the hospitality of both Israeli and Egyptian forces during the battle of Ismailia, which was the main reason for peace to be agreed upon by major military leaders, the Syrian brutality towards Israeli POW's and how it was only one tank that held off 62 Syrian tanks in Northern Golan heights on the first day. Also not mentioning how Egypt signed the peace deal and were basically exiled by other Arab powers who didn't want to make peace with Israel which would get Saddat killed in an Anniversary party by Islamic extremists.

Because of that, there was real peace between Egypt - Israel and Jordan - Israel. one minor issue you claim it was Egyptian Artillery that protected their troops in the initial counter attack and it was the when they moved out of its support that they had problems it wasn't actually artillery it was SAM batteries that protected them as It kept the Israeli air force from creating air superiority and it was when they moved away from these batteries at the behest of the Syrians (who didn't make a similar investment in SAMs or use the limited ones they had in a similar fashion thus allowing the Israeli Air force to destroy Syrian forces) that the Israeli air force were able to quickly gain air superiority and then fly ground attack sorties at will degrading the Egyptian land forces the superiority of the Israeli air force was also one of the reasons Israel was caught of guard as they didn't believe they would be attacked until the Egyptians had recovered their air force losses from the 67 war when the Arab air forces were decimated and didn't anticipate that they might be able to offset this imbalance in air forces with advances in soviet SAM technology as their was a massive leap in capability of SAMs between 1967and 1973 due to advances in computing technology and experience gained from the ongoing Vietnam war. But apart from that well done. As the original Egyptian plan was a bite and hold operation in which they penetrated a few miles into Israeli territory but stopped and dug in while still within range of their fixed SAM batteries with the knowledge that the Israeli Air force would attempt to ground strike the trench lines while they would whittle the Israeli air forces down with defensive SAM fire till they reached a point that the Israeli air force was destroyed and then the Egyptian army would break out once their was no chance of air attack and out attrition the Israeli forces. the plan was working very well but due to the failure of the Syrians to set up a similar system an their defeat the Egyptian Army was put under extreme pressure from their political superiors who were over confident in their ability due to encouraging early results underestimated the resolve of the Israeli force and over ruled the local field commanders forcing them to break out and abandon their plan when it was on the brink of total success thus dooming their forces to a devastating counter attack
