I find AZ's story to be underrated. If they had given it more significance, I know that the previous sentence would probably have not been mentioned. While most NPCs blab on about "the bond between people and Pokemon," this is the first case where I actually felt that while playing the games. This story gave me a good reason to kick Team Flare's ass too. It's a shame that all the Ultimate Weapon did was fire a laser into space.

A little short story to tell the tale ^^: AZ, for as long as he could remember, always had his beloved Floette by his side. That's why he couldn't accept the death of his friend in the war and sought out the power to bring it back. He built a machine, one that could bring his friend back, but at a large cost. However, the price to pay and the consequences that followed meant nothing to the once great king. All he cared about was getting his Floette back. Thoughts of his precious companion filled his mind as he reached out, and flipped the switch. A bright flash, and right before his very eyes, was the pokemon that returned to him in a wooden box after the war. It worked. Floette was back again, but his happiness was shortlived. The more he felt happy to have his friend back, the more he thought of the reason she was taken from his side in the first place. Blinded by the rage that followed, he once again reached his hand out... A bright flash was sent up into the sky, only to come crashing down mere seconds later upon them. When the smoke cleared, corpses of human and pokemon alike decorated what was once a battlefield, and a deafening silence filled the air. The war was gone. AZ, feeling the rage within him subside a little, turned to greet his Floette, but where she once floated was now nothing but air. Floette knew, and saw for herself, the lives of countless human and pokemon sacrificed, once to bring her back, again to quench his rage. Where was the AZ she knew and loved? In the blink of an eye, 3000 years had gone by. She had watched over him the entire time, silently looking on as he spiraled deeper and deeper into depression, becoming a shell of the man he once was. And then, a sight she remembered well once again made its presence known with the help of a red-haired human named Lysandre. He was quickly stopped by a group of children, and the town celebrated their victory. Among the crowd, AZ stepped up to challenge one of the children. Even with his speedy defeat, AZ smiled gently and gratefully at the child, and the light returned to his dull and empty eyes. Floette flew closer. She recognised that look. She recognised him. This man is AZ, her beloved friend and companion. With a smile adorning her face, she floated gently down to him, longing to return to the side of the man she loved so dearly. Clearly, AZ was feeling the same as all at once, several emotions flashed across his face, and unable to withstand it, AZ fell to his knees. "Floette... It's been 3,000 years..." He shook his head as tears threatened to spill. They were reunited again, and this time, they would be by each other's side again, just as they had once been, this time for eternity.

I thought the weapon was made based on how their power worked? Researching Yveltal revealed how to draw in massive amounts of Life energy, enough to undo death. Then researching Xerneas revealed how to weaponize it...actually, that'd be some poetic irony. Learning to renew life from the Pokemon of mass death, and learning to spread mass death from the Pokemon of life.

@@solgaleo3533 Many of the Mega Pokemon's unique dex-entires in Gen 7 already stated that there Mega evolution returned traits of there past to them. So that one in gen 9 seems more a direct call back to how Mega evolution has a tendency to draw out the strongest parts of your dormant genes.

I forgot about that, with how pretty much every single one basically being either “It’s constantly in excruciating agony” and/or “it is driven by pure rage and bloodlust” lol. That being said, there still could be a connection, I feel like it was confusing, although I might not be remembering correctly. Like, how is it capable of resurrecting the dead and granting immortality while also causing mass distraction? Was it ever even stated what powered it. I’d assume it was the legendaries, but is it whichever one corresponds to your version or both at the same time? I don’t know if they’ll expand upon it though. That’s what stings about not getting Z, and it really is the thing I hate about how the stories are handled, that while we can try and piece together an overarching plot, it really feels as though every single generation is treated as a soft reboot, never building upon the previous games. It does feel like it makes it harder to have a good plot as well, when every time they release an entirely new set of legendaries and such that is completely independent of the previous ones and that end up being thrown out and forgotten for the next ones while leaving plot threads untied. They probably aren’t gonna give us anything. Hell, we might not even return to Area Zero or even go to that northeastern landmass, they’re probably just gonna have them be random legendaries in a random Island to catch with no plot around them at all, it’s just gonna be the Isle of Armor again

So basically, because of AZ’s Ultimate Weapon, the timeline got split into Mega and Non-Mega (hinted by Zinnia when she says there’s a universe where Megas don’t exist). Of course we now have Hisui and Volo, but that was Sinnoh before it was known as Sinnoh, which is in the Non-Mega timeline. Because AZ fired the weapon, Megas now exist and Anabel is in the timeline where they do. So is Looker. Thanks AZ, for basically turning the PM timeline into the Zelda timeline. Edit: Oh and don’t even get me started on Lysandre. Without him, Floette wouldn’t have come back to AZ because AZ wouldn’t have stepped up to fight Calem at the end.
