Welcome to TEchi World Walk! Today, we explored from Caryl Ave and S. Broadway (City lines) to Warburton Ave, Manor House Square, and North Broadway.
Yonkers
Yonkers is a city on the Hudson River in Westchester County, New York. One of its most captivating features is Untermyer Park and Gardens, a haven of natural beauty. Its formal Walled Garden, serene water features, and breathtaking river views make it a must-visit for any nature lover. The Hudson River Museum, with its impressive collection of American art, an 1876 mansion, and a planetarium, is another gem in this city. Presidential portraits are proudly displayed at Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site, a Georgian house. And for those who enjoy a bit of excitement, Empire City Casino and Raceway host thrilling horse races.
Getty Square Neighborhood
The square is named after Robert Parkhill Getty, a prominent merchant and civic leader of the 1800s.[1] The area was the heart of a Dutch patroonship granted to the first lawyer in the New World, Adriaen van der Donck, who built both saw and grist mills on what was then the Saeck Kill,[2][3] later to become the Nepperhan River and today's Saw Mill.
Getty Square, a neighborhood with a rich history, is a testament to the city's past. Its oldest, still-standing buildings, Philipse Manor Hall (circa 1682) and St. John's Protestant Episcopal Church (1752 by Frederick Philipse III), were built near the river, adding to the area's historical charm. The Hudson River, bordering the western waterfront of Getty Square, served as a vital transportation route to markets, a fact that dates to the 1600s. The completion of the Erie Canal in 1825 further increased water-borne traffic from upstate New York down the Hudson to Manhattan, marking a significant milestone in the area's history.
