It's wonderful to see a modern platformer game that truly has the spirit of the classics I grew up with. Now I know Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze came out as well, but with a relatively new IP Playtonic games has done exceptional work. In a way, I do feel like this game was created just for me. Everything from the first Yooka Laylee game was polished and improved, creating a new game that has 20 levels with "B-sides" modes that change up the gameplay. With all the features, secrets, and charm Yooka Laylee 2 has, I can see this becoming a "forever game" of mine.

LIVE SHOW HYPE!!! Excuse that outburst, at first i was really confused why the next Yooka-Laylee game was a 2d platformer, and it wasn't until seeing this that i realized it's a DKC game. I was gonna sleep on this game until there was a half-off sale, and i might *still* not get it just yet, as I am still going through some secondary playthroughs of FE3H... But as soon as I finish that, I think I'll dive right in! Keep up the great work Jirard, you'll always be the best youtuber in my eyes!

To be fair, hes the new composer and his style is near identical to David Wise's so it is an easy mistake to make. Still, credit where credit is due, hes amazing and I hope he does more music in the future.

the overworld in this game was what really sold me on the game. I never played the DK country games growing up, but it really scratched the banjo kazooie itch I've had for a while. it's become one of those games I wish it was possible to play for the first time again because of how fun unlocking the overworld was for me

I also consider the dkc series to be top tier unrivaled 16-bit platforming. I've beaten 1 and 2 a dozen times each and still genuinely enjoy the art, music, and tight, dynamic platforming.

Hey Jirard, did you know that Wise only did like 6 tracks, Grant did the overworld variations BUT 75% of the soundtrack was made by the new sound guys at Playtonic? They're Matt Griffin and Dan Murdoch. At lease give them some credit by mentioning their names man, they did an absolutely stellar job on this and made by far the most tunes for the soundtrack!

Man do I love this game, also just wanted to say the Impossible Lair took me 21 attempts with all 48 bees before I finally beat it. It was one of the toughest platformer challenges I have ever faced

I like completing games to the end to get the credits to roll. This is one of the games where I done everything but I couldn’t finish the “not so impossible lair” I got to 33% my farthest. I can’t waste my time on a game where it’s near impossible to complete when there’s many more games to play. Other than that last level it was a great game.

Might have to consider getting this on switch. While Yooka Laylee looked great (the first), I was never the biggest 3D platformer player growing up. However, I loved DKC growing up -- although, admitedly my platforming abilities aren't that good these days. I should probably finish Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze first -- awesome episode Jirard!

I think the rating system wasn't adequate for this game in the same way as BOTW and Hollow Knight. You should absolutely go for 100% of all the normal stuff. Yooka: all collectables and 25 tonics. BotW: all shrines. Hollow Knight: all base game achievements. Don't go for 1 shot impossible lair, don't go for all korok seeds, don't go for DLC achievements.

Do Fight'N Rage, a callback to classic arcade brawlers. It came out on Steam a few years ago, but is now on Switch, PS4, and XB1. There's a lot to do, multiple endings, multiple paths, multiple unlockables, etc...

This game was really great! I just found out about these two games last week since it was free on Epic and noticed this was free back in January. It's a really great game! Super hard though, I have a hard time finding all the secrets so I have to use a guide.

8:15 that actually kind of happened with Blue Öyster Cult. They didn't break up, but there was a lineup change. One of their albums was recorded in 1969-70 but fully released in 2001 (they were rejected multiple times before their debut in 1972). Idk I made a comment to help with the algorithm.

Little precision for those who are afraid of having to do the Impossible Lair with one HP : This is not required for any achievement/trophy, it feels more like a "101%" than a 100% (you can still get the platinum trophy on ps4 without doing it for instance).

This game looks alot better than the first one in my opinion, I don't really like the first game for the same reason I don't like Banjo twooie. There are too many things to go back to in older levels after getting different power ups. I just want to finish the levels one by one and complete the game in order so I dont feel the need to follow a walkthrough. This is why Banjo Kazooie 1 is my favorite game in it's genre 🤷‍♂️

We should’ve had a new Donkey Kong Country game from Retro Studios by now. They’ve been up to god knows what in the last 5 years and have nothing much to show for it. At least Playtonic is giving us more DKC-style goodness in the meantime

I still think Tropical Freeze and Rayman Origins are a much better take on modern 2D platforming, and and have spoiled me with perfection. But Yooka is still a pretty decent 2D platformer, and I love what they did with the overworld.

Yknow... Id actually be up for Playtonic going in on a Zelda. Maybe not a full mainline game (Botw, TP, OoT), but something ala Minish Cap. 2d top down or 3d. Their choice. With Eiji/Shiggy as the overseer and Nintendo's budget, amazing things can be done.

Unless you are a Master of Platformers you will have much trouble. It is unforgiving and makes you do everything over again even if most of your previous run was fairly good.

Without a doubt the steepest difficulty spike in video game history, the Impossible Lair itself is a hundred times harder than even the hardest level of the main game, absolute dick of a level. Not sure I have the patience or willpower to ever push through a "Golden Touch" run, took me literally all 48 bees to finally finish after a dozen tries, losing my final bee near the end of the mad dash finale.
