Exactly,my friend.The intercepting fist is a technique very effective, impactful and requires a keen sense of anticipation. When you have mastery and you are very fast with the extra power (as was the case with BRUCE LEE), you have a definite advantage over the opponent you are fighting and if the blows are destructive, the opponent is likely to bite the dust quickly. Even if the opponent is very resistant, with the repetition of the blows (powerful), the outcome of the fight is not in doubt.

I believe the reason that people feel the need to put things into boxes is the fact that we humans make sense of the world in terms of categories. Lee's JKD is no exception. It's hard for people (sometimes even myself) to grasp how something can be a concept without being a style. The way I think of Lee's vision/the essence of JKD is that there are common denominators for effective NHB combat such as Economy of Motion, and some styles ARE per se more economic, but people don't question them.

It's a fact.He was the first to think so to strive for maximum efficiency, this is why he studied closely street fighting and all the other martial arts that have come within his reach by improving gestures and blows, going to the essentials. He was the first to open this path and be going so far, I believe that no one else has done better, for the moment ...

True. He is just genius as deep thinker observer, to learn efficient moves from different styles and apply to his foundation art, his Wing chun
@davisbarr91124 жыл бұрын
I really enjoyed that. It's hard not to appreciate Bruce Lee. Those are moves that represent his ideas that are in film. I think the reactions Chuck had in it were overly poor, but it was to demonstate his ideas. Some of it looks less good or stupid or looks only like the movies. But the purpose of the side kick is to use intercepting straight lines. That's better and smarter than you think, it's very smart. I like the offensive, not defensive use of lap sau from the already dangerous gouge. Because Bruce was not allowed to finish the style of wing Chun then relate it to where it came from Shaolin ... Which included all the lines already ... He had to create JEET KUN DO to fill in the gaps ... And the world was better off for it.
Wow , even after 40 years he is still the fastest.

Agreed. At the same time I can also see how there's a paradox going on when it comes to Jun Fan Gung-Fu (or Jun Fan JKD, or whatever). On one hand, it's great that Lee's own personal interpretation of the JKD concept is being taught and kept alive, but on the other hand it quickly becomes a style if the students do not have a deeper understanding of the philosophy and reasoning behind why Jun Fan JKD looks like it does.

Yori looks a little like an Asian version of Hugh Jackman. Any minute and Yori will transform into Wolverine. No need for JKD!
Bruce understood that he was fast, too fast, but even him couldn't be a wing Chun master, that's why he adapted the wing Chun and other kung fu techniques to his power and speed, and that was how jeet kune do was borne, its not a style, its more like a filosophy of life, cause almoust every day is changing its techniques , the reason whay for that is that Bruce was strong, fast and very alive, he was pure dynamite one of the sistems that in my opinion respect Master Bruce techniques is Russian systema, apart from wing Chun naturally!! The wing Chun offers the whole 4 weapons to the adversary, I mean the 2 arms and 2 legs, when you adapt a single side way position you actually lose the advantage of all this weapons, so you must be faster, otherwise your movements can be easily seen, i frankly prefer wing Chun we're you stand in front of your opponent and you can have a easy response to any kind of attack with simple movement and simple techniques.. Of course that means that you must practice every day to achieve your goals, I mean firstly you must lose the fear of being attacked, secondly you practice must be slowly, clear and accurate in this way you can achieve in a relatively short period a good level of this sistem!! I didn't get there yet, but I'm on to it
@xxwhatevahxx5 жыл бұрын
Only kung fu technique in JKD is Wing Chun.... everything else is in it is basically Taekwondo, Boxing & Jiu Jitsu techniques.... JKD is basically Bruce Lee picking his favorite martial arts moves and blending it into one.... which is the whole point of JKD / his philosophy, no JKD master is supposed to look identical, there is no particular "Kata" like in Karate or something afterall... its more like MMA....

Beyond basic techniques within a system, the ultimate level is to achieve a state of mind where there are no "techniques" . It's simply cause and effect, dealing with things in the moment. The problem with styles is that many practitioners become prisoners of their system, rather than letting a system liberate them. Once you pass the basics and reach to the bottom of the system, you need to break out of set rules. JKD from my understanding is to break out of these set rules that block the mind.

Look at the angles of some of those kicks your going to hurt yourself if you try them. Look how silly his hand attacks look .. open hand .. can simply defended against .. Some attacks may work .. but an MMA guy can check and nullify many of those moves and dig inside his weak defense .. even the moves are so telling and too exposed .. Good for movie bad in real life .. showmanship ..

From what I see I can conclude that JKD is all about timing. Best fit for slim and fast guys. This style is about flashy counter-attacks, but at the same time instead of just responding to attack, the fighter needs to be flashy to hit the opponent in the very beginning of his attack.

Just to clarify... The EOM was just one example. And when I say people don't question the styles incorporated like Wing Chun (that has become almost mandatory in many JKD schools), I mean that many people think of JKD as yet another style. Not that there's anything wrong with Wing Chun at all! But "true" JKD would be if the practitioner would go through the same proces as Lee did between his Wing Chun lessons and his Jun Fan Gung-Fu, instead of simply learning JKD as a "fixed" style. / rant
