Be sure to lube the oring on the filter before inserting. This is why you had a slight struggle to get the cover back on. If the filter oring is lubed. It slides right into the cavity in the housing. If you ever have high differential and the filter is not clogged, check the supply line where the shutoff valve is, sometimes small gasket material can get stuck in the reducer fitting at the shutoff valve.
