Thank you so much for putting these videos out. I have lone paroxysmal afib, and only have had a handful of episodes in the last 4.5 years. I'm 31 now and haven't had one in 20 months. I spend so much time worrying about afib, and afib and stroke, but I have no co-morbidities for stroke and am very healthy. I need to relax and your videos help me to relax. Thank you!

Janine Geauvreau just a thought, but have your Afib events been confirmed as such by Holter monitor or in hospital? I get occasional supraventricular tachycardia PSVT and suspected it was Afib before it was caught on a stress ECG.

Good theory! But, do you think a patient who’s gone from paroxysmal to persistent AF, has a CHADS2VASC score of 0, has tried meds for several years and failed and who tolerates his symptoms most days... Do you think this patient should have an ablation simply because if the patient doesn’t do so soon the patient may end up living with permanent AF? Do you think it’s worth the risk? In your other video I’ve heard you say only patients who do not tolerate their symptoms well should have an ablation but what about those who want a better success rate by getting it done sooner rather than later? Your input is greatly appreciated.

Shame he hasn’t answered this. I’m the same 46 CHADvasc 0 hate taking blood thinners and dread to take them For life as they might kill me quicker than afib. How are you doing now did you ablate ?

Dr. Gupta thank you so much for the outstanding reassurance that I have received from your videos. I am a sufferer of pacs, pvc's and occasional svt. I have been on 400mgs of magnesium oxide and 200 mgs of metoprolol suss along with a calcium channel blocker. Needless to say I still get them and there is nothing more that can be done ablation is not recommended because I am 43 and the ablation points are multi focal. I am going into shoulder surgery and would love to see a video on surgery and pacs and pvc's during surgery and if there are dangers involved and after care? As far as taking pain management medications and the effects that they have on the heart. As always thank you so much for these great videos and taking the time to answer all these heart related questions bringing light too those in fear of heart related problems. Many blessings. Michael

Hello Dr Gupta, I have had lone Afib since 2014 and have been helped very much by your videos. I wonder if you could do a video on diet. I am starting to change my diet to the recommended diet of Dr Fuhrman who maintains if a person follows his diet and removes stress and exercise that they can eliminate heart disease (but not afib) . Even though I have afib and know the diet will not cure me I am interested in having a healthy heart. My question is what do you think of following a diet such as Dr Fuhrman recommends for a person that has afib. I am concerned if I ate a lot of vegetables it would increase my clotting quite a bit. I am currently on metoprolol and aspirin only, in fact I have reduced my metoprolol as I was taking 25 mg morning and evening and I was finding I was getting skipped beats soon after the evening pill as I think my heart was beating too low and the pill made it even lower while I was sleeping which was the reason so many of my afibs were occurring in the evening. I also notice triggers while stressed on holidays or taking a nap after a large meal or extended periods of physical activity. If you can do a video on diet that would be most interesting. 90% thrombi form in the left atrial appendage but 10% form in the left atrium itself, especially if there is smoke on echo or other risk factors, uncontrolled hypertension, obesity, uncontrolled diabetes, age >65, prior TIAs and strokes, females, congestive heart failure with or without low EF.

My question is will afib lead to congestive heart failure in a young person with no Co-morbidities, if the afib progresses to long-standing? Are there any studies that show the development of CHF from simply having afib with no co-morbidities? Thank you again Doc.

HTN or age induced strokes could be small vessel stroke or large vessel stroke. The risk of death and disability is different in types of ischemic stroke. This is why a cardiologist should not be stepping beyond their area of specialty to talk about a disease unless they have experience in the disease.
