What a treasure you are! That was such an interesting look into the dynamics of proper diagnosis between Causes v symptons of an individual's health. Q. What can one expect such a thorough diagnosis to cost? On another note, I enjoyed yr brief tour of your home surroundings and the incredible work your mother has put into restoring the one building for visitors. So calm, so restorative! AND a plus listening to the soft sound of the waves of the sea. That all has so much potential for anyone who needs to get away from the world's disruptive issues! Sending you lots of good vibes and blessings. Elizabeth from Denmark 🇩🇰

3:23 God I LOVE LOVE LOVE Dr. Gupta....despite being a traditional cardiologist he talks sense. I have been turned into a fkn mental wreck by run of the mill bullshit doctors who focused on my BP (elevated due to white coat syndrome) and my slightly elevated cholesterol and a1C. But i exercise 5-6days a week fairly vigorously for years and eat as healthy as possible and feel completely healthy. Yet they fixated on fixing the numbers and screwed with my head and screwed my life by causing me panic disorder, making me obsess over making the "numbers" perfect. I hate the medical field and going to doctors but thank god there's doctors like Dr. Gupta who have the decency and intelligence to treat and cure patients the right way without ruining the quality of their lives. I LOVED this video and it was so useful to calm my nerves. Thanks

I'm not perfect with my diet [I'm about 85/15 % healthy to not so much] and I've been working out daily for over 50. I pray that at 80 I still have all the energy and brain health that his mom has. That a doctor is sharing potentially life-saving information about heart disease in all its sophisticated complexities -- for free -- is quite noteworthy and edifying. And for 18 minutes? When my doctor sees me in his/her office, I can barely get 5 minutes.

I cant go without saying this- im glad i found your channel. I was just looking on topic about anti coagulants and found you. You are absolutely unselfish by sharing your thoughts and knowledge, and thou i am not a dr i understand fully your discussion bec i am so aware of the many items you mentioned, having all my readings elevated for most of my life, and with additional other findings as i grow older like atheroschlerotic carotids, blood clots etc. Majority of doctors in practice do not discuss in details to patients maybe bec they want to limit patients time, so we patients rely most on youtube doctors to gain knowledge, since google also presents contradicting infos, at least in youtube we get to identify who discusses what. Ive finished 2 of your vids including this and i enjoyed it that i am now an addition to your subscribers. More power to you.

I couldn’t agree more with you. I recently had a health checkup and they said everything is fine with you. But I have had an unusual discomfort in my chest and chin for several months, so I insisted in doing a CTA, which I paid by myself. The results showed very severe narrowing in the RI and severe narrowing in the LAD. They immediately admitted my to undergo a PCI. It’s now two weeks since I have two stents implanted and all symptoms disappeared. I believe I was very lucky. My advice: Listen carefully to your body and don’t believe everything. Be responsible for yourself.

Thanks for the great info. It would be wonderful if we could find a service where those 5 heart disease tests (Retinal Scan, etc) could be provided in one place. As you said, it makes total sense to repeat the panel of tests periodically. For example, I will be retiring soon and my aim is to get regular exercise and go to the gym. A before and after panel would be extremely useful to understand what changes/improvements were made. Same with diet.

Very valuable info. With a BP of 135/90 my GP has recommended meds, but I would like to run some more in depth checks first. If I understood correctly, these are the recommendations: 1. Retinal screen to check tiny blood vessels in eyes 2. Kidney Microalbumin (to assess microvasculature of kidneys) 3. Echocardiogram to assess heart structure and function 4. Doppler ultrasound of the neck to assess blood vessels to the brain (carotid ultrasound) 5. Cardiac CT Scan to assess coronary arteries

I completely agree with your reasoning. The only problem is that a cholesterol blood test, an HbA1c and taking someone's blood pressure in the doctor's surgery together will be a fraction of the cost of an echocardiogram or a CT angiogram. I guess that's why we are so often offered the former but not the latter. Of course, if you factored in the cost of unncessary treatement or missed illness that could result from over-reliance on the former, cheaper, tests, perhaps doing it properly would prove less expensive in the long run.

I really have to agree with you about that blood pressure screening. I'm almost 70. I remember going to my doctor, who was very good with me, and when I first got there, my blood pressure was taken right away, and it was 140/100. But I had just walked about 3 miles to my doctor's office, and it was 88 degrees outside! Then he took it again about 20 minutes later, and my blood pressure dropped to 130 / 80, and then he waited 20 minutes more, and it dropped even further to 129 / 75! So as you stated, sometimes external reasons are the reasons that our blood pressure might fluctuate and it's a good doctor when they take that into consideration, and not get too excited and place you on a thousand medicines! Despite my age, my doctor was always surprised that my kidneys and my liver are both functioning at 98%, even my oxygen intake is about 98. My biggest problem has always been my weight. I'm 5 ft 9 and I am currently on a very nice little diet that I created and I hope to be back down to about 175 by July of this year.

Aloha Dr,Gupta, thank you for all the information. You didn’t mention peripheral artery disease, and this is how I found that at least one artery in my left leg was blocked. I had a CT scan. I’m taking a low-dose of statin, and not only did my cholesterol go down, it was never super high, but the cramp in my leg went away. I had thought it was my arthritis. I changed my diet, and although my mobility is not great. I started exercising as much as I could. It was a complete accident that a nurse perform an ankle brachial test and sent the results to my doctor. Who ordered a CT scan my question is one. Is peripheral artery disease coronary artery disease as one doctor told me just a vascular problem. I asked to see a cardiologist and my PCP told me my feet looked good so I didn’t need to see a cardiologist but I pressed him and I have an appointment with a cardiologist for a consultation. Thanks to your advice I know what tests to ask for. I don’t have diabetes And my blood pressure has gone down since I started exercising. I’m 73 and I haven’t had many of the tests you suggested except an EKG. Thank you for listening and I love your channel. You are an awesome person and I wish your mom great success.
