All aboard for this exploration of the old Yorke Peninsula railway lines in 2022. We’ll take a look at what remains of the old lines, yards, and buildings, as well as find some tiny railways that still operate!
Thanks to my family and to Chris for being good sports and helping out.
The two small railways featured are:

Thanks to 'Hairylegs' for their .kmz file. It's an amazing piece of digital work. I base my map animations on the paths contained in that file for Google Earth Pro.

I so loved the old train network throughout SA and how it kept so many country towns alive. Thanks for the opportunity to reminisce. Hoping one day they start bringing them back!

No worries. The decline of the railways brought huge changes indeed.

I Remember the Tourist train from Wallaroo to Kadina as a Kid to Adult and the Rumblings of the ground as the train passed through sounding the horn and hearing the choonka choonka from the train running along the line. I will never forget.

A world destination of steam tourism has been demolished. Dare we dream large? Adelaide to Coonawarra/Mt Gambier, Adelaide to Barossa/Clare, Adelaide to Strathalbyn/Langhorne Creek (existing), Adelaide to McLaren Vale/Willunga. An endless world of train and wine enthusiasts awaits our brilliant heritage and wind regions in SA if we grasp the whole story of what we once had and could do again. A huge statement of world-class toursim across a globally accepted industry of food, wine and historic train travel. A huge boost to the regions. An unlimited audience. Dare we?

If you run out of subjects to document, you could do the rivers in SA eg Gawler , Light, Broughton etc . That would make for some fantastic footage, especially with all the rain about👍

Thanks for another great vid. I have fond memories of the train ride through the Hummocks after being at Mums farm at Balaklava (to Bowman then Pt Wakefield), Paskeville (my cousins), Kadina, Wallaroo Mines (dads birthplace), Wallaroo and checking out Moonta Mines.

I moved over here from Victoria was shocked by the absence of regional rail. There should at least be a regional rail service linking port Lincoln to Whyalla to Port Augusta Germein Pirie to Crystal Brook to Kadina to Adelaide

Even during the peak of railway in SA, Eyre Peninsula was never connected to the rest of SA, The national network only ever went as far as Whyalla. But way back many years, Port Lincoln was serviced by the same ferry as Kangaroo Island and people could get to Adelaide by boat instead of train.

You missed one of the old SAR steam locomotives on static display in the park at Kadina - it is quite a popular item, especially for the kids!

The platform at Bute was built by Yorke Peninsula Rail when we started running trains from Kadina to Bute. In the SAR days the only platform there was the goods platform

I truly enjoyed this video.. Since moving down to Australia 13-14 years ago from UK and India; I have been to many parts in Australia especially most of these country towns in South Australia.. I`ve been to Moonta, Wallaroo, Port Wakefield and surrounding places multiple times and photography is one of my interests...I get fascinated every time I see an abandoned railway track and thank you very much for bringing this video.. Some of the scenes like the long shot of Moonta railway station and the last 3-4 minutes looks exceptionally stunning.. Liked, subscribed and thanks again..

At Wallaroo had a line Rail line that many years ago was connected to to Moonta to Wallaroo Line and ran through the Wallaroo Golf course and down Ryan Street. That is why the road has that curve to it.

The Turn table is in the grass area around the side of the solo's that face the ocean and heading to Moonta direction. The line had many branches that led of it and the line that connected Moonta to Wallaroo runs around that Turntable and runs alongside the Grain Storage that is closest to the silos on Wallaroo to Moonta Road and crossed the road and linked up to the bike and walking trail is now.

Really interesting .. such a shame it is no longer used . More freight can be carried far more economically environmentally friendly by rail than by road. Rail was often the lifeblood of these small towns. Rail is great for tourism and also for those who can no longer drive

What about Port Broughton? I think I remember train lines on or near the Jetty - and being a port - and there was a channel there - maybe for a larger boat - there could have been trains for transport local product

I loved checking these stations out and was glad to see how Moonta and Wallaroo at least kept their stations and some rail around it. Kadina however is just trash how it is just a car park! such a Giant FU to history and rail in general and a testament to Australia and S.A as a whole how we focus on the car so much :(. That aside I do love the drone footage as I only ever could take ground shots from my phones camera lol.
