Yorkshire Dales Country Walk Tan Hill to Ravenseat and West Stonesdale round

Our video is a guided circular walk in the Yorkshire Dales. Starting from the famous Tan Hill Inn, the highest Inn in the British Isles we walk to Ravenseat,the home of the famous Yorkshire shepherdess, then continue to West Stonesdale and return to the inn on the Pennine Way. This is a moderate walk on uneven grass paths, good gravel tracks and some tarmac minor road. There are a number of gates and stiles and some steep inclines and declines.
Elevation: approx lowest point 350.90m (1151.25ft) approx highest point 542.50m (1779.86ft) approx ascent 387.70m (1271.98ft).
Approx 8.7 miles allow 4 hours using OS Explorer Map OL30, Yorkshire Dales Northern and Central areas. This walk is done anti-clockwise.

I have travelled up to that area,(100 mile trip each way)many many times,it is nothing but beautiful and i envy those that live there,life is hard there,but i admire their strength and determination 🤠🍺

Hi Megan, we did this on the hottest day of the year it was a bit cloudy at times but we had a fabulous day. Tan Hill is high up in the Yorkshire Dales and we called in for a meal and a pint at the finnish, it was a long day and took a long time to film. We were lucky enough to see Amanda Owen and say hello to her husband, Clive. A few hundred yards from their farm at Ravenseat there is a beautiful little waterfall where we sat and had our break. It was great watching people going to the farm, sitting at the tables in the sunshine and being served tea and cakes by Amanda. What a fantastic walk this was we love the Yorkshire Dales and the welcoming people who make a living there. Happy Christmas all the best The Taxi Driver.

Great video,haven’t managed Yorkshire because of Covid-19 but your UT’s keep it alive,thank you,we’re back this weekend and must visit Ravenseat farm another wonderful Yorkshire treat on our journey back to Scotland from taking in the walks on Ilkley moor again .Hope your all well and survived COVID.

Oh, we remember Hannah Hauxwell very well, she is in fact quite a hero of ours, a very special lady. I didn't realise she'd passed away. What an inspiration she was, we look forward to seeing that.

Hi Andrea thank you. Our next video which is just a bit different, hopefully this will be uploaded at the weekend, it is Goring-on-Thames featuring Mill Cottage where George Michael lived and passed away. Its unbelievable the place has been turned into a shrine. Then we have to more walks in that area then on to Avebury Stone Circle, Silbury Hill and West Kennet Long Barrow and The Uffington White Horse in Wiltshire, Cerne Giant and Corfe Castle in Dorset. Some of these were built up to 5500 years ago. All these need editing but in between we are going away filming when the weathers good. We hope you like the next one all the best The Taxi Driver

Hello, thank you so much for yet an other outstanding video. I hope you don't mind a remark: In your comments you often regret the lack of sunlight, but in my opinion the quality of videos taken with overcast sky or even light rain is far better in general. This one is a good example: the soft light creates beautiful colours and the views are not distracted by harsh shadows and overly high contrasts. Anyways, please keep the videos coming! My wife and I enjoy them very much and some of your walks are already on our "todo list" for the next holidays. All the best Harald

Hi Harald, thank you so much for your comments. We are glad you like this one we enjoyed it tremendously as we were lucky enough to see the Yorkshire Shepherdess serving cups of tea to fellow walkers. As we were filming her husband waved to us, we didn't realise it was him at the time. This was quite a long walk to film in one day. in the last 3 or 4 weeks we have been filming in the Lake District and elsewhere. One of the surprising walks that we did was Binsey just above Bassenthwaite Lake where we encountered a bull with cows and calves which were very close. We tried to film this one to show people that if you are slow and sensible that you can walk by them safely as a lot of walkers get injured. This is a great bit of real time filming and we hope to uploaded it in a few weeks or so. Last week we filmed two walks at Haweswater. All our walks are made possible by my wife Janice who does all the map reading for me to allow me to film, she also does the editing. Have a great holiday all the best The Taxi Driver

Hi Paul, we remember the advert well, Tan Hill is a lovely olde worlde pub. When we did the walk it was supposed to be the hottest day of the year but still quite cloudy because we were so high up in the Pennines. Thanks Gary, we are using a new Panasonic camcorder at the moment. This is our 4th camera but the main problem we get with all of them is because we film circular walks depending on the cloud cover and the position of the sun that part of the video has lack of light or dazzled with the sun. Lack of sun on Tan Hill walk was a problem especially on distant shots. The whole idea of our video walks is to show people if you cannot map read very well that you can still do any walk by using the video as a guide. They are free with no subscription or log on for anybody to use. All the best The Taxi Driver

Hi Charlotte, we are pretty sure it was Amanda Owen's husband but we didn't realise at the time. We also saw Amanda serving drinks to walkers sat at one of the tables outside the cafe. Its a beautiful setting on the river with the waterfalls. We hope to go back for a coffee on a short walk from Keld.
