Informative vid. I have a Yorkie from a reputable breeder in my area - he is a great dog. His temperament is very likeable - calm, friendly with other dogs and people, more so people because most other dogs are bigger than he. One thing that's needed with Yorkies is to practice discipline on a constant basis. They can be stubborn. Mine is 5 pounds or so, I take him almost everywhere I go. He is also a picky eater, so frustrating at times.

It sounds like you have done a great job socializing him, as well as training him. I agree that training has to be done on a consistent basis....or your yorkie will start to train you! Have you tried different foods? I buy food from Just food for dogs and they love it. Mine are allergic to chicken and turkey so they eat: lamb, beef and white fish.

@@MeganGraham I've tried a ton of different foods, he eats now without too much issue. Just food for dogs is great from what I've heard. As far as socializing him, as a puppy with all his shots, I took him to a private park in which there are a good number of small dogs there. He can hold his own with bigger dogs too if they get in his grill too much. He's super sweet with people though. He puts a lot of smiles on people's faces and goes to them on command when I see people want to pet him. He'd be an awesome therapy dog.

I have just rescued a Yorkie from my Vet. He is 5 years old and was turned in very matted. He is home with me now. He and my Shih Poo are getting to know each other and doing very well. I love your videos.

I lost my sweet baby girl a few years back, she was 13 yrs old. She was a perfect baby, short snout, short little legs, and the perfect shaped head. She was truly my baby, ive been searching for one that looked just like her. I even posted a pic of her online asking if any breeders had a mom and dad that looked like her. Lol I recieved pics of so many yorkies that looked nothing like her. I still have 2 yorkies one is 12 and the other is 13, we love our babies are our children. My husband and I are retired and our babies are by our side 99% of the time. If we go on a trip they go with us, the only time they have to stay home is when either of us has a dr appt. Our daughter is a yorkie lover too, she has one. When we pass away or get to the age we physically can't take care of them our daughter is going to take them in.

We found an amazing breeder who lives in our area and is also a veterinarian. We paid a hefty price for our two and we have no regrets at all. The puppies are top notch. None of the babies have had the problematic issues that Yorkies can have. She has imported dogs from the Ukraine and they are absolutely beautiful!

My Yorkie developed cancer and I had to put him to sleep this past December 30th.The Yorkie I had prior to him lived to be over 20 years old with no health problems except for a compressed trachea that made him snore. It sounded like a person was in the room when he snored. After a little more bereavement time I will look for another Yorkie.

My brother adopted an adult yorkie and he is the sweetest dog. He doesn’t have papers and certainly isn’t the breed standard, but he’s awesome. He’s exceptionally good with children and babies as well.

Yes, of course breeders do not actually fix them themselves… But any reputable breeder would make someone sign an agreement that they promised to spay or neuter the dog because they would not want the dogs to be bred.

The price will depend on Yorkie genetics. If parents was a champions or not . Also price depends if dog qualify for dog show .I’ve got pure yorkie from Russia 2 years ago with whole documents and certificate about his genetics . His parents was Europe champions , he’s so so beautiful dog .

I so agree with you Megan. The YTCA breeder that I'm in touch with is charging $3 to 4K. Don't know exactly know what I'll be paying yet. My yorkie should be born soon but I won't get it till October. I'll keep you post it. I'm also getting it from a show breeder. I took your advice to heart when you said never to buy our puppy from a store, but to get it from a reputable YTCA breeder.

I definitely try to, but Alfie is really really difficult and his teeth can barely be brushed. I would say I brush the other dogs teeth five out of the seven days of the week. I do try, but I’m definitely not perfect. And Lola doesn’t have any teeth… Her little mouth was so tiny that her teeth did not stick around for too long:(

Yes it’s definitely hard to do it everyday! Especially when there difficult to do it on. I know they recommend treats that help clean them, but mydog is extremely picky. They told me at the vet that if you don’t clean them you have to atleast take them in yearly to get a deep cleaning. But my dog does have stinky breathe so I try to clean them but he hates it. I thought I’d ask if you had tips! Lol

Yorkies rarely available for an adaption, at least in my area. I just spent 2400 for floppy eared yorkie from puppy store. He comes with 12 yr warranty on genetic disease. hopefully he'll make it to at least 15

Please don’t buy a Yorkie from a pet store. It’s the worst way to get one. You will be supporting puppy mills. I will be on KZbin live this Sunday if you’d like to get on and ask them questions live but absolutely never buy a pet from a puppy store. It encourages terrible things to happen to the parents.

How do you know if they are a reputable breeder? So what is different between a reputable one you call it and a “back yard breeder”? Don’t they have to start somewhere? What is a back yard breeder? I mean that is kind of confusing because I know someone who breeds them and she isn’t asking a lot compared to others but they are not to cheap either. And she seems like she knows what she is doing. So is she known as a backyard breeder? Idk

It really varies depending on the region. Most quality breeders are likely charging between 2k and 4k. I think when breeders charge more than that it is too much, but it really varies by region.

Hi there, here are the thinks I suggest looking for in a breeder. 1. They should ask you lots of questions about how you will care for a dog, either in writing or verbally 2. They should insist that you spay or neuter your dog after purchase 3. You should be able to see the parents 4. You should be able to see how/ where puppies are raised 5. I prefer show breeders that Are Yorkshire Terrier Association of America Breeders 6. They should not be willing to ship dogs 7. Puppies should be with their moms until 12 weeks old I hope this is helpful! Megan
