In this episode of the Disaster Datsun Restoration we set on with getting that full handmade sill panel welded in. We test fit the doors to check the gap situation. Spoiler: the doors are rotten! the gaps are decent to providing the complete bad shape of the doors. and the other side which we haven't replaced it worse that the side we have replaced! it is slowly coming together but we still have so much work ahead of us!
Click here for the previous video where we make this huge sill panel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5q1noiJp6Zrd8k
Hope you enjoy the video!

Some say that what you do here is art. I think it's magic. Ordinary mortals cannot imagine that what you are doing with a piece of sheet metal is possible.

Well done Ryan from Adelaide Australia. I have been cativated by hy your patience and skill working on this disaster Datsun. Brilliant and skills not always passed onto the next generation of auto repairers as you have discovered on this project. Thanks for the videos.

It may seem like a heresy but I will be almost sorry when the Disaster Datsun is finished as the series is so instructional. I'm not surprised that it's difficult to get good alignment of the doors as they are such a size and any wear or distortion on the hinges would throw things out of whack even if the doors were perfect. Thanks for another enjoyable video.

Well done Ryan, we know there is a ton of work, hours, and brain power to make that sill happen. The videos are just a summary. If you think it will take a few day to do, make it a week or so. Ask me how I know.

Just found you guys and binged the whole Datsun odyssey in one sitting, absolutely amazing work! Two things popped out at me: 1. That windowsill song gets old after 9 hours, and 2. With the sheer amount of manhours already invested in the Datsun, how is it economically viable? I mean, your work is exemplary, but surely there’s a roof limit on how much money you can get for even a mint example of the Z…

G'day Ryan, looking better mate , the hinges on the door are probably well worn, i'd be having a good look at them first and if you have to, a shim under the hinge will bring the bottom of the door out a little.

Love your work it's fantastic. I have an Austin Atlantic convertible which requires new sills. I was wondering why you didn't put the Datsun on a rotisserie? I sure there must have been a reason. I was planning to weld in substantial bracing and cross bracing before I remove the body from the chassis. Cheers

Love your work guys👍I lived in Japan back in the 80's. I owned 2 Fairlady "Z" Coupes. I could never get past how long a 2+2 looks. The back seats are not useable for anything other than a gym bag. I know when you are finished, it's going to look perfect, but is there a market for these 2+2's in Great Britain? Cheers from Guam USA🏝️

From memory the gaps on the the doors were never good and if you get them 85% there a good bodyman will get them straight with a bit off bog . Gaps are my thing because i'm old skool but you can chase your tail trying too get them right when initially they were'nt that great to begin with but crack on your doing a brilliant job 👍

Good job! i like that the rebuild measurements almost comes from pictures of an identical car 😅. Did you rebuild the right side sill from scratch as well? Whats your estimate of how big a part of the car ends up being replaced? 80%? I guess that you pretty much at this stage, can improve the factory structral stiffness on lot off hidden areas? I mean, over years car design have improved quite a lot..😊
