Good to see all the signs of growth Kris and I’m a big fan of the Jubaea view, it’s shaping up to be a magnificent palm 😃

I had a few bits not germinating in my vitopod, accidentally left the thermometer out of the casing, the temp rocketed for a day and pretty much everything then germinated, Luck rather than judgement I think. Nice video Kris

Can't believe your pink china are already pushing up. No signs of mine yet in boggy Newcastle. Mind you mine rarely form much of a display, always struggled.

I haven't sown all my seeds yet. Hopefully, I will catch up. It looks really good, Kris. Come on, warm weather!

I prefer the view now without the arch as it reveals the beautiful palm centrepiece and takes the eye down through the garden to the bottom which really is quite an impressive view! And I know you’ll be itching to underplant soon 👍

Yes the winter storms have done me a favour really, opening up the view
@Gina01516 ай бұрын
Yes sometimes new opportunities arise from the disaster destruction our uk weather throws at the garden. Same thing happened to my gazebo and archway in the storms … so I’ve redesigned the space

Kris could you remind us of your baggy method for starting canna rhizomes indoors? Can’t find your video on that. Same for dahlia bulbs, I want to use bag method to get them and shop bought canna rhizomes sprouting to grow them on a bit inside ready for planting out in June
@Gina01516 ай бұрын
Thanks for the heads up. Most of my cannas I just divide and propagate but I bought a few cheap dahlia and canna bulbs from Lidl last week. I’ll grow in pots and keep them away from my established canna crops just to see if they do show virus signs

Have you tried propagating the spider plants from the pups of the mother plant?
@YorkshireKRIS6 ай бұрын
Spider plants yes. Some have even survived winter outdoors. In the video I'm growing Cleome from seed, also known as spider flowers.

Hi kris regarding cannas all mine outdoor are starting to sprout is it best to leave them alone or dig up and pot on into my greenhouse .thanks Adrian

How's a good time to divide them if you want to bulk up your stock. Dig up, split and pot up with new compost

Hi Kris, I have a large dry stored hiniba which I potted up in dry compost/ perlite 5 weeks ago in a warm sunny room, but it still shows no sign of growth. Do you think I should give it some water, or will that just invite rot? Appreciate your advice! Thanks
@YorkshireKRIS6 ай бұрын
Check for root growth and see if there's any moisture in the root area in the compost
@imranbashir28336 ай бұрын
No root growth yet. The corm is still firm, and the compost mix just barely damp to the touch under the corm. I tried to keep it as dry as I could to prevent rot
@YorkshireKRIS6 ай бұрын
@imranbashir2833 if there's some dampness then don't water. Try and put it somewhere warmer, ideally on a heat mat and fingers crossed
@imranbashir28336 ай бұрын
Perfect, I'll give that a go. Thanks for your reply and for all the inspiration over the years!

An update - your advice to use a heat mat worked! 2 weeks later and I have root growth. Thanks so much! 😊

Yes they do often rise to the surface, much like irises do.

@@PlantMad I'd mulch them in autumn to protect them from frosty periods in winter
