Yoshimi Masaki is a retired Japanese judoka, who competed in +95 and open weight categories. He is 1985 World champion and 2-time Asian champion. He was famous for his massive Harai Goashi and Makikomi throws.

In his case, his Haraigoshi was powerful, but more than that, he's regarded as a master of Deashibarai. His ability to perform sophisticated Deashibarai in spite of his huge size was quite impressive. He was a contemporary of Yamashita and Saito, so he tended to hide behind these two. Besides, with the rise of newcomer Ogawa, he eventually didn't make it to the Olympics. He mentored Shinohara after his retirement.

払い腰、または払い腰に行くと見せての足払い、この二つの技だけでほとんど相手を倒しているのは凄いですね。当時の重量級は山下、斎藤がいて、序列的には正木は３番目の選手でしたが立ち技の切れは１番だったと思います。世界選手権に出ても優勝可能な実力者で当時の重量級はレベル高かったです。

Interesting the Japanese commentators are calling those big techniques harai goshi, but they look pretty clearly to be guruma type throws . Mainly o guruma. I guess because o guruma is such a rare tokui waza, but his centre of gravity is enormous and it works perfectly for him

not o guruma because the opponents body is on his hip, whereas o guruma throws purely using the leg, without the help of the hip/ goshi

当時の重量級は山下と斎藤がいましたからなかなか世界の檜舞台で活躍の場がなかったですが、出場すれば世界一になれる実力者でした。また、全日本選手権でも２度優勝しています。払い腰と足払いのコンビネーションが抜群だったですね、寝技がイマイチでしたが。

正木嘉美 Masaki is not very well-known outside of Japan, Korea and China, as he was always the number 3 behind Yamashita and Saito. Nevertheless he is All Japan Champion 2 times and his replacement at 1987 World Championship and 1988 Olympics was Ogawa. I think he is the best Judoka from Tenri University.

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but watching someone win through sheer minotaur strength is boring. It's like that one Russian wrestler who was so monstrously strong that he kept winning by simply picking up his opponents by one of their arms and they couldn't do anything about it. I don't want to devalue their wins, I just think it's more interesting to watch when it's a contest of skill.

Grand judoka de Tenri appartenant à la même génération que les deux monstres. Si les jeux de 1988 avait gardé la catégorie open (sa suppression restera une aberration), il aurait probablement pu aller chercher un titre (quoi qu'avec l'émergence de Ogawa, champion du monde en 1987, on en sait rien). Je ne sais pas ce que t'en penses mais Yamashita et Saito dans la même génération, c'est un peu comme si les français avaient eu Douillet et Riner dans la même génération. Ces gars là joue dans la même cours.
