It’s mind body training. MM is more street fighting. Bruce Lee understood the difference but there were and are people in ASIA and AFRICA that know the energy side of it that is deadly if allowed to use in general public. But, a lot of it is forbidden.

In regards to never demonstrating on people outside the art. It is key that people have a working knowledge of this art form. The technique and throws, when used on untrained individuals, could have devastating results. Dislocated bones broken bones, torn ligaments. Never sleep on a style you don't have a fundamental understanding of. That being said, Steven Segal is a joke. Not a warrior deserving of respect. he is a Charleton with no honor or humility. Everything a martial artist shouldn't be.

It’s an early 1900’s bullshido style. If it’s someone nowadays making some nonsense system we laugh, but somehow Aikido got overlooked then grandfathered in so you got all of these dogmatic nerds defending it with Twitter fingers. Idk why this is taken seriously and it makes Traditional Martial Arts look worse than it already does. And to the nerds that are so insistent on a TMA at least go learn Karate or Muay Boran, you’ll at least have a chance at being a good fighter if you spar and you’d be upholding the roots of an actual traditional art.

I love how everybody talks trash about this martial art because it's trendy, it's easy to surf on this vibe when you know everybody will agree with you, but truth is, how many real martial artists are writing innthe comment section ? Very few I guess. I've been wrestling and boxing all my life and I still have respect for this art.

😂😂 100% There is this „abandoned“ UFC fighter (China hates him) because he fights a lot of the grandmasters and defeats them ALL in the first rounds. Humiliating… All these videos (I‘m sorry) are just theoretical mental body training. In actual fight situations, the opposite person doesn’t jump like flipper. He wants to bang you to the shadow realms and runs at you like a berserker🤣 no time for „1,2,3“. You got maybe half a second to place your punch wise. 90% of all fights are a „first hit, wins“ situation. (I have a blue belt in kung fu, amateur boxer and ufc fighter. Tried it all… believe me.)

For people making fun. Aïkido is an art form that is used for leverage and advantage when your opponent is larger than you or charging you. It is a style that controls the momentum of your opponent. If they are skilled in any Martial Arts it may not be as a effective. The objective of Aïkido is to not harm or inflict heavy damages to your opponent. For the layman trying to challenge you in a bar, this is an excellent way to protect the drunk and stupid population 😂. Edit: I wouldn’t try to use much of this as a professional MMA fighter but in the average street fight, Aïkido has some great techniques. Don’t be a bandwagoner and shit on art forms just because you don’t see it on TV.

Martial Arts is the study to master one self. Physically and mentally. To be able to fight is an added benefit, this benefit doesn't apply to all martial arts, and it shouldn't. A sharp edge is mightier than bare fist and a loaded gun is mightier than a sharp edge.

I remember watching some old 8mm movies from old aikido masters in martial arts conventions who didn't have students with them, but asking volunteers from karate and judo to attack them dodging real attacks. I was impressed. Nowadays, it seems like aikido is the best martial art to defend against a guy who stubbornly tries to grab your wrist, but never attempts a punch to the face, a kick, or grab you from the waist and throw you into the ground. Not impressed with what I see today.

It is a demonstration of the art form, but not of its applicability unfortunately. Don't get me wrong, this same situation happens in boxing and MMA demos, but at least those are more often tested against resistant opponents. Aikido is almost never stress tested. Those that do find it become something more akin to Judo, dependent on hip throws and leg trips. Aikido from my experience relies on your opponent setting themselves up for failure - stiff and one track movements, throwing one's weight, lifting hands high, leaning or reaching off center, no recovery / recoil / responsive movements to retreat.

Akido is not work against resistance, It's the opposite. That's mostly why who never done Akido does not understands it. Once you master the flow of energy in the same direction as the momentum of the opponent you get 2 times the force generated to slam the opponent in submission while being fluid throughout. Then you can decide to break or peaceout. That's why Aikido I say is Majectic giving a chance. The reason they practice in slow manner as over years the same set of movements (any martial Arts) is to develop into 2nd nature like you learn a language. You can not in the beginning practice any martial Arts fast. A baby learning to walk for example. Any martial art or non will work on the street or inside the ring. It all depends on who is applying it. But everyone's a Judge.
