Awesome video! I had to cut off my engine mounts from the frame and re-set them in a different location due to an engine swap. After seeing this, I should have just made new mounts! Cutting them off without impacting the frame left me with having to re-fortify the mounts anyway...

Dude, that AC compressor bracket looks like its perfect for the swap on my samurai. I'd kill to have working AC, but the ALH AC compressor had to be deleted to run the lower radiator hose through that location. But the other cool thing is that block looks identical to the ALH, so maybe a PD swap is in my future.

Hey man, I want to convert my Tacoma to a 2008 TDI . Where would I get a solid step by step layout of how to do this? Do you have any resources I could call on?
@MussaKZN3 жыл бұрын
Are the original VW engine mounts mounted parallel with each other or are they angled inwards say 15degrees. I’m saying this because when mounts are laying on a flat plane they can vibrate horizontally (right to left) and can flog out Prematurely from excessive sideways movement but if their mounted angled towards each other say in a 15degree wedge they can’t sway because the vibration is concentrated towards the centre of the mount like a triangle. Or Maybe hydraulic mounts are different. Anyway good work mate.
@austinniemela3 жыл бұрын
I guess i have not thought about that! I did this same setup on my red truck and its been fine!
@MussaKZN3 жыл бұрын
@@austinniemela anyway time will tell, I think less noticeable vibration would come from slightly opposing mounting points, the engineer at my work always says vibration is a Long term machine killer, when we run dampening mounts hydraulic or annular on machines we tend to alway try to oppose one another, kind of keeping everything pointed to the centre, like front shocks are slightly angled inboard or rear shocks sometimes one facing forward and one backwards, just for keeping harmonics dynamics under control. I do like your work even though still no Toyota diesels in sight!!
@Phil006614 ай бұрын
Do you have templates of the motor mounts you made?

I’m a little curious, this Tacoma came with the same 3.4l 5vz that came in the 4Runner of similar years? If that’s true, why not put a 1KZ Toyota Turbo Diesel engine? In my country you can find the 4 runner with the 1KZ originally installed, why not bought it a engine from Asia or Central America? It’s for the cost of the project? I’m asking that because you can save a lot of time in electrical, mounts, brackets... aaand have the Toyota reliability. So why?
@austinniemela3 жыл бұрын
Well that is a great engine and a good swap, but getting parts for that would be difficult. I would probably have to buy everything overseas as no parts stores in the US carry anything for them!
