Was buildin fence with my grandpa one day(he was about 75 at the time) and we were stretching gaucho wire. It came loose from the tensioner and he was holding onto it, it stretched about 3 ft through his hands and I mean to tell you just mutilated his damn hands. I said grandpa you want some work gloves? He looked at me and said(I'll never forget this) "Leather gloves cost $14, my hands'll heal for free". He worked the rest of the day like nothing happened. I wouldn't call him a cowboy but he sure was one hard ass ol farmer. Wish he woulda told me after that "On to the next one ol son!"

As someone who visits Nebraska every year I can confirm that the old OG farmers out there are tough as nails. Just replace the cowboy hat with a mesh trucker hat with some random fertilizer company logo on it.

I watched my dad put a rusty nail plumb through his thumb once while he was running trotlines (don't remember how or why a rusty nail was even involved with trotlines, but that's what happened). He said "ow" and turned around and held it up to my brother and said "pull that out." Then he finished running lines like it was nothing. Tough old bugger. Still is and he's in his 60s now.
