You brought up a factual point. "You wanna not get promoted go into the Marine Corps". I had a tough struggle with the promotion system. Long story short, not long after I hit my 2 year mark I was permanently placed on limdu and was told getting promoted to e-4 was damn near impossible since I couldn't shoot or run any more PFT's and the cutting score was too high for someone on limdu. It didn't matter that my last PFT was a 1st class, I was belting up in the MCMAP program before limdu etc. It was definitely frustrating. But I still never regret the fact that I joined. It was an experience. Keep up the good vids Jake.

@@jwsmith1470 yeah it depends on what you trying to do. Your more sharp as active duty in your military job and discipline is higher. It gives you the confidence and discipline to do more after you get out. Since you feel box in because of active duty contract. The Reserve or National Guard gives you more opportunity to progress in your career in life for sure but dont get the experience being a 24/7 soldier. Etc. It all depends what you trying to get out of life. No wrong answer, no one better then the other.

I fully agree with you would you say about the navy I think of it more as a monarch with the captain is the king and he will do as he d*** well places.... My father joined prior to World War 217 years old no high school diploma he was spent 25 years in retire as a lieutenant Mustang officer... I would go my brother would go my nephew would go we all do our duty not a career for everybody but it is a good experience for everybody.... But yes it is a hydrochial system withi the elite class the officers, Then the serfs they listed men..... But being honest I do not know if it is bad or not... I know I fully respect it. .

All of the underservice hate is wearing me out. I went into the Marines in an MOS that did not promote. Cutting scores through the roof, eight year corporals ect ect. I worked hard, and I made Sgt in 2 years nine months. Hardly any time in grade as a corporal to make E5. I did get meritoriously promoted, but I worked my tail off doing so. But the whole bagging on the Corps thing..... Well, I knew what I was getting into. I did not join the military for creature comforts. YES I KNOW the SF guys, RANGERs and 82ND get better everything, but if you do not have the maturity to understand why the Corps exist and why the budget isn't there, or why we do not have dedicated extra curricular activities, where as in the army you can make a career out of the bowling team. I am done watching or supporting other veterans that get off on driving the ferrari and picking at the guys who drive the accord. They both get the job done. I have seen lots of Marines smoke check indocs, schools, courses, ect ect, only to see the command not let them go to whatever it was that they were trying to do, because the Marines wanted to keep their conventional forces stacked with good dudes. I totally get the allure of SOF, but don't think half the people criticizing the Corps gets what it was intending to do with the MEU's, ect. Yes it needs to do better, but every service needs work.

@@jakezweig Jake, you fail to see how demoralizing this is to veterans in general. You are going to want and need Marines to your left and right in the oncoming conflicts. If you really want to split hairs, the seals are no angels either. I have seen my fair share of snafu's in your branch as well. I never joined for the benefits. I joined to be a Marine. Anything else that came along was just an added pep. You are entitled to your opinion, and I am entitled to move along to more positive content.
