It irks me when people say Louis never put Claudia first. He put Claudia first when he went along with her plot to kill Lestat, he put Claudia first when he defied Armand and made Madeleine, and he put Claudia first when he stayed away from Lestat for 77 years because he thought he was the one who orchestrated her death. All that said, I do acknowledge that he failed Claudia in many ways. having Lestat turn her into a vampire and using her as an emotional band-aid. The love was there but it was never enough.

To me it's a case of the love was enough to keep going but they both needed more in ways they couldn't provide for one another. Basically people are complicated. Especially those who don't even have the luxury of aging to reflect. Claudia probably would have liked the modern day. Maybe even like Daniel.

I truly felt for Claudia here, nothing was her choice. Yet for everything, she is punished. Claudia was made to fill not one but two voids in Louis life. Grace, the sister who abandoned him, and then as a bandaid to heal him and Lestat. Claudia has always been 3rd choice and the sad part is?? She actually knows it.

It's sad because Louis truly wanted to believe that she was more to him than just a third wheel. He wanted to believe she was enough without falling back on Lestat or eventually Armand.

He was fine having someone else and having her follow him around. Yet, she couldn’t go off and do the same. It’s selfish behavior.

He realized how selfish he had been; I think maybe part of that clarity came from when she shared her experience with Bruce to Louis. All he wanted was a new family since his vampirism had closed off his original family to him, with how Louis' mother and sister feared and hated him.

@@calliespltn So, the most painful thing about that, for me at least is, that; I would say yes. If you watch the scene and pay real close attention to what Louis is mumbling. He's saying things like "it's coming back to me", "I'm remembering" "Paris", then he starts mumbling about Claudia and how he can hear her. "She callin' me" he said, before turning and going straight for the door. And he goes UPstairs, not down. So I could be reaching, because you know we don't hear what he's hearing. But the way I understood that is, he was hearing Claudia, most likely screaming for him, back in the theatre, when he was dragged away from her. And taken DOWNstairs. She was screaming "LOUIS!" over and over, and he was screaming for her, but he couldn't get to her. So that's painful as hell to think about. But then also, think about this Why, in that moment, did it seem like he was only just then "remembering" what happened in Paris at all. My guess, is that Armand had actually previously done something, sometime after Paris. That stopped Louis from really remembering that Claudia was actually dead, until that moment. And in that moment, it was Armand telling him that Claudia didn't love him (which was a blatant lie), that then triggered him to remember. And boom, he immediately walks into the "fire".

She can ditch him, for an entire coven of Vampires. But he's not "allowed" to even look at someone else. He can't have any sort of companionship, until she's happy and has left him for her own companion... After already using him to take his whole ass husband out... Craaaaaazy. She loses her shit, screaming and raving and cussing and throwing a tantrum like a toddler, and destroying his property... almost exactly how Lestat did him, over Jonah. AFTER Antionette. But as soon as she has her own companion she's suddenly totally okay and happy for him and Armand. She gets what she wants, so now it's suddenly all okay. He can have a companion ONLY if she says so. Right. He exists only to benefit her, right... He's supposed to just sit at home, alone, and stare at the wall. Wait till she has a use for him... And somehow all the fault is still on Louis. Somehow it's only a "problem" when Louis does it. It's only "stupid" when Louis does it... It's "okay" when Lestat does it, it's "okay" when she does it, but not at all okay for him to even try. Lestat can have multiple companions, Claudia can have MULTIPLE companions, but Louis isn't allowed to have even one. How dare he, right.... Crazy thing, those mental gymnastics.

The saddest part, is that they both knew that neither one of them was "enough" for the other. They both needed their own companions, just like everyone else. And they both picked others over eachother. Claudia picked the coven, Louis was left with Armand. Then Louis finally picked Armand, and Claudia finally found Madeleine. Louis went out of his way repeatedly risked his own life, to help her find and get her companion. While she constantly was at his throat for eventually giving in to Armand... It's just interesting though, that she actively pushed Louis towards Armand, even when he was hesitant about it, because it benefited her for him to be less dependent on her companionship. While she sought out the coven. But then when coven life soured for her, she lost it on him, in almost the same way Lestat freaked out over Jonah. After saying "of course" 50million times... and then when Claudia found her very own Companion/lover, she was magically back to being okay and supportive of him and Armand. Going as far as to 'apologize' to Armand (which she really shouldn't have, he didn't deserve it). But it's just interesting...

Only it doesn't though. He says "you and me. Me and you" which does not change, even after she leaves him for the coven. He says "even if we never find another" but they do, and still he stays for hee. He says "if you were the last Vamoire on earth" but she's not. And finally he says that he won't taste the fire, as long as she's alive. And he doesn't try to kill himself, until she dies. And he tries to die the same way she did. There's literally nothing that ended up being a "lie" here, or something that fell short. He just wasn't enough for her and could never be enough. And they both knew it, it's the whole point of this whole trip. So that she could find someplace, with someone that was "enough" for her. He literally was "me and you" until it was Claudia and the coven. He stayed exactly where she left him. To go after other Vampires that she felt were her "kind"

I think there is some subtle storytelling with the hallucination lestat. I have two interpretations of it. One is that despite what louis is saying to claudia, louis cannot and will not be able to fulfilled without lestat, and claudia probably knows this. The other is that in louis's point of view, lestat always has his eyes on claudia, which in turn could mean that lestat is a lot more attached to and protective of claudia than many might assume.

I really wonder why Louis saw throat+rip Lestat up until this part and not past-living Lestat like when they were in Paris. Is it because it was his last memory of him and how he convinced himself Lestat ended up as? Or are these Dreamstat visions not just invented by Louis' memories but also Lestat's true self that presents to him due to their bond? So for example, when he saw him like this scene its Lestat still in the coffin trying to recover but tied to him? And during Paris when he looks healthy, better is it Lestat as imagined by Louis still in love and tied to him x Lestar feeling better/stronger vigilant of his lover who feels better as well?

Yea I am not convinced the Lestat was all in Louis head. Lestat referred to Armand as the "gremlin" at least once during that period but Louis had never spoke in person with Lestat about Armand before.....Louis wouldn't have known that was Lastat's nickname for him. Lestat referred to Armand as the Gremlin when Louis and Armand confront him in Magnus's hideout in real life later, but that was after Louis's 'dream' version

@shannonspage9360 i think Louis knows about the gremlin nickname after they met with real Lestat during the dungeon/ending of Loustat in Paris 🤔 so its just present Louis remembering past events where he learns Armand is called that by Lestat. I agree though, i think that vampire bonds can go beyond "just a memory" and actually haunt each other most often in a romantic way, and less Nosferatu haunting Ellen type of way.

It should be, but what it shows is that Louis is lying to Claudia, even against his best intentions and that's part of the tragedy of it. He loves her, she is his child, his joy, but she is not enough, not for him. That is his flaw.
